printer-friendly PHB

Sorry if this is a repeat question -but haven't found it yet, so here goes:

Has anyone figured out how to print the Players Handbook (or specific pages) in a "printer friendly format"?

The colored background eats up my ink and in my opinion also makes the book harder to read.

I've played with Adobe settings, etc but haven't had any luck getting just a white background for printing.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Maybe install a pdf printer and adjust print settings for black and white. Then print pdf. See how it looks and then print the new pdf.

Maybe call the Trolls, see if they won't give you 4th edition pdf.
