Encounter chart

Post by Aroboth »

I bought the Player's Handbook and the Monsters and Treasure book at Archon and I was wondering if there was a random encounter chart similar to the one in the Monster Manual 2 for D&D that I am just missing, or am I spoiled and should have to do my own encounter chart.
I don't really mind either way but I would rather not take the chance of me messing up an encounter table and ruining the game for the people I am...CKing?
Thanks in advance.

You have to create your own encounter charts. That or be sure to buy old school modules that have them in them. The Mother of All Encounter Tables is a 3E product, but is easy to rewrite to our standards. Especially if you buy the PDF.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.
Sounds obvious to me! -Gm Michael

Speaking of encounter charts, I'll bet somebody has made some freely on the internet. Anyone know of such a resource?

Oooooh, yes, had forgotten about Donjon, what an amazing resource. That PFSRD list is really great too, thanks! The ACKS link is Loooooooooooooooooong reading. :)
I do love that system though. Probably my favorite after C&C.

Engineering Dungeons has random encounter charts, broken down by terrain / environment type:

It's also awesome in its own right.

Thanks Kreider! I actually bought that in PDF (in one of the trolls awesome 12 days of Christmas sales if I recall correctly) but never noticed that, or forgot, or something. I'm gonna check it out right now!

Quite welcome. That's easily one of my favorite C&C accessories. Reminds me of some of the best bits of the 1st ed. AD&D DMG.

Well, search no more. These are all I need and more! And they were in my computer C&C docs folder the entire time! Not sure how I missed them I must have just skimmed this when I got it a couple years ago. I got so much on that sale, I guess I couldn't even read it all. Heck, there's all kinds of tables in here! All grouped by environment and broken into common, uncommon and rare. Perfect!

Cool, glad that worked out.

Ya, I have a bad habit of accumulating PDFs, esp. cheap and free ones, and never really taking the time to read through them. It's amazing what I'll find I already have when I take the time to look.

Over the years I've accumulated almost everything that has been released by TLG for Castles & Crusades, at least in PDF. They have so many sales throughout the year, I just get caught up each time they have one. I actually get bummed during some sales because there's nothing for me to buy that I don't already have.
