My first Leather Bound Book

Post by koralas »

Ok, well really vinyl since I went cheaper on my first attempt, still I like the results, want to bling it up some, but it is a good start. Will refine my techniques on the next go around, and am starting my version of the Dungeons of the Insane Grand-Mage (Castle Greyhawk) in this in any event. Being old-school I wanted to do this dungeon, even though the Castle of the Mad Arch-Mage is pretty awesome. It is just that I wanted one of my own, and I will be using many ideas from the original dungeon that have been made public (as you can see by some of the level names, in fact every level is named, though the Greater Caverns is so large I issued letters for each section), and while I probably wont use modules such as EX1/2, WG6, I will make my own versions of those locales to place therein. Some dungeons I previously wrote, modified to fit this style of gaming, will bolt right into the framework, though many more will need to be built. After drawing the side view, I stepped back and realized just how big I made it, well that is not a bad thing, but it will be a while before it is complete. I know a few levels I will probably run on the fly using my random dungeon generator, based on the 1st Ed. DMG, but I want to add more fluff to it, anyhow, that will be a bit more of a challenge, but I do enjoy making things up on the fly, so it will be good.

There will be more portals to other planes/demi-planes/planets/points in time, etc. And a lot of other surprises, for example the elevator is made of glass, and if one understands the controls (not likely, though certain patterns will be found or deduced) you can get to any level of the dungeon, as well as some not in it, not just the obvious ones marked on the shaft which only require a press of a single button. There will also be a slot machine in the elevator that will take the characters to a random location, that should be fun.

The level sizes don't necessarily correspond to those shown, but are more a gauge of the size. In some (such as the inner sun) the characters will actually shrink and what would have been yards would become miles or leagues in distance.

Here are some pictures (note that if you view in the web browser, you should zoom in three times to see the full size images, I cut all but the last to 50% resolution)-

Looks pretty awesome!
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.
Sounds obvious to me! -Gm Michael
