Rogue Back Attack question

Post by koralas »

OK, so the Rogue has the Back Attack ability, and it is one that is "affected by armor", so -1/point of AC armor type gives when better than 12. How does this impact Back Attack? For example, Chain Shirt, provides AC 14, so -2 on abilities.

When using Back Attack how is this applied? Do you -
  • Subtract 2 from the +4 bonus to hit
  • Subtract 2 from the damage dealt, is that
    • Pre-multiplier
    • Post-multiplier
  • Both
  • Neither
  • Apply penalties to Hide/Move Silent checks only, if successful allow the Back Stab at +4 and full damage rolled
I can see arguing for any of these, but personally I would adjudicate the last, applying to the checks to insure surprise is gained, but wanted others thoughts.

I agree. Make it more difficult to get into position. Once there the attack should proceed 'normally'.
