Castles & Crusades via Skype?

Post by rjussa »

Looking for some players to play via Skype.. could be just messaging or video... Can be a small game 1-3 players is fine. I'll keep it simple, since I've never tried to run one online before. Low-level starter adventure is what I have in mind... anyone interested in playing?

Seems like its hard to get anyone interested in a game on here... am I doing it wrong? Maybe if I posted what the game is about it might generate more response? Really dying to play some C&C but I don't have any local players right now, and hoping online will be a fix for that...

There are several online games going on around here. My suggestion is to tell a little bit about your game. Most importantly, include what day and time you are thinking of running it. That would be major hang up for most people. If you can't find someone to join your game, see if you can join in an existing game. Good luck.

Hi rjussa

It can be a bit difficult to get an online game going on these boards. At present, I think there are 2 groups that have games going so it is not a big community

I would recommend a few things:

1- post day, time, game background

2-use an online program like maptools (requires some fiddling with your router) or roll20 (runs simply in a browser). This makes games run much smoother and is a more complete experience

3- post the game at the forums of whichever of the above programs you use. They seem to have a lot of games being posted

4- maybe start with a one shot just to try it out

Definitely give it awhile for people to become aware of the game (especially during the holidays)

Good luck

I am actually involved in 3 games with people from this community. Just one of them right now is Gamma World. Its a small pool of people, and most are already involved in games. So yeah, give more info, in particular what day and time, and wait. Maybe you will find a few who can game on the day(s) you want to versus the days we already do, which are Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. So try for Wed through Saturday. I am also doing what I call a "One shot" this Saturday, using SKYPE and Roll 20, which you can play in if you wish. I run it very infrequently. It may be 3 months before I run it again.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

I'd be very interested... what time on Saturday? I'm on PST in L.A.

Thanks

I am in AZ, it will be 7 PM for me, which I believe is 6 PM for you.

Sounds good... what would I need to prepare for Saturday's game? Also how long would the session go until? Will be a good experience for me to learn from before I try running my own game in the future as well. The thought of running something online via Skype can be intimidating... Thanks for the invite.

Treebore will steer you right. He does a great job

It might be a good idea to see if you can log in a few minutes early, and let someone show you how the map works, how tokens work, how to roll dice, etc

Plus, in online gaming, there is almost always a technical hitch somewhere. Especially if it is your first time

I've played around with Roll 20 a bit... so I won't be totally lost... just enough to know the basics of it. I like how easy it is to get going, and probably easier to get a group of people on a web based tool than something you have to download and install. Is there a thread I need to get on to know the details of the game for Saturday? Do I come with a level 1 character ready to go?

Thanks again guys... I know its a small community for C&C... but well worth the effort for this wonderful gaming system the Trolls have given us.

Its looking like we will have enough players that you can create a second level character. If it was fewer I'd say 3rd level. If you can, create it at both levels, 500 GP worth of gear per level. So either 1,000 GP or 1,500. I don't care what method you use to generate your stats. You can even fill them in however you wish for all I care. Just follow the 3 to 18 range, before racial modifications. Races and classes are per the PH. For HP give yourself max at first level, then about 70% after that, so 3 for a D4, 4 for a D6, 6 for a D8, 7 for a D10, and 8 for a D12. Then CON modifier.

I was going to say maybe it's the time of year and there'll be more takers after Jan 1...

Feel better, Tree!
