I'm long time lurker gathering intel on C&C, but I haven't seen my question addressed anywhere.

How do racial abilities interact with class abilities?

For example, take elves. Enchanced Senses grants them a +2 to listen checks. Then under the stat block, elven rogues are granted a +2 for listen checks. So do elven rogues gain a total of +4 to listen checks?

Also, are the characters allowed to add their level to racial abilities? If an elf attempts to move silently, can he add his level even if he isn't a rogue?

I'm probably overthinking this, but I want to make sure I have a handle on the basics.

In every Racial description you will fin something like this: (I use the Dwarf example here)

LANGUAGES: Common, Dwarven, Gnome, Goblinoid, Halfling,
Elven, Ogrish, Giant, Troll
SIZE: Small
MOVEMENT: 20 feet
TYPICAL CLASSES: Fighter, Rogue, Barbarian, Cleric, Bard
ATTRIBUTE MODIFIERS: +1 Constitution, -1 Dexterity
ROGUE AND ASSASSIN MODIFIER: +2 find traps in structures only

It tells you what the Class mods, if any, are...

These types of situations have been ruled differently by various CKs over the years to better fit their style of game. I'm not sure I can find the massive discussions that have been had many years ago on this topic, but suffice to say, the answer is yes to both of your above questions.

This is one area that will hopefully be edited within the next printing of the PHB.

No, the bonus is a +2. The list under class modifiers is just a restatement of the bonus from the racial ability.

Yes, racial abilities are the same as class abilities.

No, the bonus is a +2. The list under class modifiers is just a restatement of the bonus from the racial ability.
