Thanks for the game, guys! I'll keep everything on standby for next time Nate cancels.

House Rules from tonight:
Hypnotic Pattern: Creatures in the area get an int save every round.
Spell Casting: I think we decided we weren't going to have spells start at the top of the round and go off on the casters turn; CT 1 spells are cast and go off immediately. This has an impact on interrupting enemy spellcasters.

I would do hypnotic pattern as: "affected creature stands slack jawed for as long as illusionist concentrates unless creature is harmed, if harmed then gets a new int check every round in which he suffers harm

That way, the players can either take advantage of a neutralised monster _or_ take a chance on "waking" him by attacking him

Your call, of course

Edit: just had a little peek at the ol' SRD and their version "fascinates" (like C&C) but where C&C says "heedless of all else" , the SRD actually defines fascinated as a state:

A fascinated creature is entranced by a supernatural or spell effect. The creature stands or sits quietly, taking no actions other than to pay attention to the fascinating effect, for as long as the effect lasts. It takes a -4 penalty on skill checks made as reactions, such as Listen and Spot checks. Any potential threat, such as a hostile creature approaching, allows the fascinated creature a new saving throw against the fascinating effect. Any obvious threat, such as someone drawing a weapon, casting a spell, or aiming a ranged weapon at the fascinated creature, automatically breaks the effect. A fascinated creature’s ally may shake it free of the spell as a standard action.
So that is even more circumscribed than what I proposed. Strange that the C&C version is so much more powerful, unless they give a definition somewhere

Yeah, I am not sure it is broken anyway. It just works very well when there is one monster and it fails its save.
