Sometimes the answer is right in front of you

Post by lobocastle »

I have been influenced on my C&C game power level by such writings as Terry Brook’s Shannara, Joe Dever's Lone Wolf, and Dennis L. McKiernan’s Mithgar. In addition, Websites like Daniel R. Collins D&D Hotspot Website and Paul's Blog have influenced my style of play. I have always hated working with spells above 6th level as a DM or CK and I hated excessive hit points. I was going to redraft the spells gained per level for all spell casting classes up to level 20. I prefer the 2nd Ed AD&D 20th level maximum to the C&C's 24th level maximum. I was poring through the C&C PHB when I realized that I did not have to make any adjustments to the spell progressions if I just set a 12th level maximum character level. I considered this option for both spell casters and non-spell casters and grew to like it. I could handle the power level in terms of spells and the hit points would be manageable as far as fantasy realism is concerned. I am fine with multicasting and class and a half based on the 12th level maximum so a Wizard/Cleric/Monk 12/12/12 would be fine by me. Also since I am imposing the 12th level limit I am going to allow for some adjustments to the classes to increase their relative power level. I am looking at a power level less than D&D 3rd Ed. Something like allowing the advantages from the CKG or a similar list be gained at the recommend levels listed in the CKG in addition to the class abilities already present in the C&C PHB.

Nothing wrong with setting a limit. I suggest, for balance, that you set an experience limit, rather than a level limit (since spellcasting is a major concern, find the exp needed for level 12 wizard and cap it there). That way, classes with lower experience, due to lower power, don't get left out in the cold.

Docdoom77,

Thank you for the advice concerning experience vs levels.
