Racial HD instead of Class HD

Has anyone used racial HD in place of class HD? I've been thinking about this for a very long time and thought I'd throw it out there for discussion. I was thinking something along the lines of this:

Dwarf d10
Elf d6
Gnome d8
Half-elf d8
Halfling d6
Half-orc d12
Human d8

But then I looked in the M&T and all of the PC races have d8 for HD. I could go with that for continuity within the rules, but that, at least to me, doesn't fit with the way the races are represented.

Anyways, what are your thoughts on this?

Dwarf Wizards are automatically awesome.

Racial hit dice breaks the class archetypes. For example, the wizard is supposed to be weak, both in hit points and combat, but his powerful offensive spells at later levels make up for it. That's why he has a d4 hit die type. Rogues are tougher than wizards but they aren't front-line combatants and their hit dice reflect this. Clerics can be effective on the front line but their strength is in their healing abilities. Virtually all of the remaining classes are tanks, including the bard.

It can work if you also do it the way TSR did it in the boxed sets and Rules Cyclopedia, restrict the races to a specific class as well. Its dirt simple to do a C&C game based upon those rules.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

I think it's a cool concept, but maybe it needs a tweak, like some classes modify the die size.
perhaps:
Fighter, barbarian, +1 (d12 max)
Wiz, Illusioinist, -2 (d4 min)
Others as needed.... these modifiers are to the die size, using the "normal" ones, not the DCC list of dice, (so d4, d6, d8, d10, d12)

so the dwarf wizard would end up with d6 HD, which works IMO. especially if you actually roll them.

Relaxo, I like that. I may have to ruminate on it further. It's just been a thought float around the old noodle anyways and I think fits more in line with a skills based system than a class based one.

Ive always liked the idea of racial HD over class, although Ive never really implemented it.
Ive never been totally happy with class based HD.
Ive come up with a few options like racial modifiers. Or class based with class modifiers.
Even had the idea of both class and racial HD and averaging them.
None of the options were every worth the ease of just using RAW.

This was the essence of the idea that I had when I first read the original post.

I can see some sort of chart where you cross-reference the class (one axis) against the race (other axis) to determine dice type.
