3D printed metal dice.

Post by Sir Ironside »

If you love funky dice there are new(ish) sets of 3D printed metal dice that you can find here at Shapeways.

These are some of the coolest dice sets I've seen to date. (I understand that they do plastic dice also.)

Here is a video of the process to 3D metal printing. It doesn't show them making the dice, but it gives you a good idea on how it is done.

Edit: Cool 1 sided Mobius die!

Some incredibly cool looking stuff there. Very imaginative. Pricey, but that's to be expected.

But having a set for fantasy vs. sci fi vs. horror would be awesome.

Now, see, that is just what I am talking about in the screen thread. Those things would hurt if they hit you in the face. I recommend that players use dice made of foam, balsa, Nerf(TM), something that won't leave marks on my handsome countenance.

Yeah, I posted about Decader dice months ago, very cool stuff, but a bit on the pricey side. I'd much rather buy an RPG book or 3, or a few PDF's, with that money.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

I wonder if I could get the industrial arts teacher to make me some on the school's 3d printer? Granted, they would be plastic, but they would be costum.

Yeah, we had a player in my old Castle Zagyg campaign who insisted on using solid metal dice, as they were his favorite. Tore the living daylights out of the table we played at... :o

He was also insanely lucky with those dice... makes me almost want to consider banning metals at the table just to give the CK an even break

After taking a quick look, it is apparent that some of these dice are going to be REALLY biased in rolling due to having more metal on one side(s) than others. I'd never let them be used in a game.

Luckily the ones he used were Crystal Caste, Chessex or Dwarven Stones dice, so I'm fairly sure they were legit. But yeah... some of those 3D prints are certainly works of art, but I can't see how they'd work as practical dice.

I have a couple sets of those, amethyst & hematite. Good dice.

I have a few sets of metal dice I don't dare use, at least without my felted rolling tray; just too much impact for a table. I hope to get some nice jasper dice at some point. Currently I am still raiding diceshoponline's final Gamestation inventory; if Mr. Zocchi doesn't get back in the game, I think they are among the last.

Yeah, I should've put, "For dice collectors."

I was once a dice collector and had many sets that where unusable. One of my best sets was an obsidian set. They were noticeably unbalanced and could never be used for true random generation. But, they where really nice dice to look at and hold.
