My "dream" TLG Kickstarter...

Post by Treebore »

Mine is to do one for the Mass Combat boxed set system, just bigger, better, and more bad ass!

More components from Fat Dragon, monster/unit tokens done Pathfinder style (sorry, I am tired of mini's) and a redo/reorganization of the rules in a more solid book format, that will hold up better over time.

I'm in no hurry though, I essentially already have it, owning all of FD's stuff like I do, and all of Paizo's token sets like I do, and already having 3 sets of the original boxed set. So I can wait, but I think its an awesome DELUXE product I'd like to see.

Edit: and fully rendered digital images of the FD components, so I can easily use them "already made" in my Virtual Tabletop Games.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

I like it. As stretch goals lets add token and map stuff in a VTT format so we can run it easily on Roll20 or maptools.

Oh yeah, definitely lots of possible add-ons with maps, additional tokens, physical and digital, etc... even a special "measuring stick" for those who don't want to use gridded maps, and like doing it Wargamer style. Plus I think there are a number of battle field type features that Tom (Fat Dragon) has yet to cover, and if this KS got big enough, could finance him finally putting in the time to make a wide variety of "Battlefield" features.

Damn Treebore, that is a fantastic idea for a stretch goal on this Kickstarter!

Might be too late on that though.

It's one of the more system neutral TLG products, so if advertised that way on Kickstarter it might to very well as a stand-alone KS.

Yeah, I think this idea is too big of a "price point" to add onto another KS, it should be done on its own. Plus do a video showing how "universal" to D&D it is.

I've got to echo, in agreement, that this should be it's own Kickstarter. It could easily hold it's own with all the wonderful things you could do with it.

I like mass combat in my campaigns. It is probably the only time I'd break out (paper) miniatures in an rpg. Though I'd much prefer expanding content to play without miniatures, more than what is presented in the CKG. But, having a viable paper-mini's option would suit someone like me really well.

Tree, I'm glad you brought this up. Fields of Battle is one of a few TLG products that deserves more time in the sun. That said, I'm glad that they kept cranking out the softcover book after the boxed sets sold out. I was talking to Todd at Midsouth Con about FoB. I told him that the blank unit sheet (bare minimum) included with the box set needs to be in the book. Also, I mentioned that the sheets of cardstock monster, human, and demi-human images (also with the original set), as well as other creatures, (not included with the set)needs to be available as a pdf for sale at rpgnow and drivethru. Maybe even the Fat Dragon Siege Engine, as well. That said, maybe your idea for a kickstarter would be even better. If that's not feasible, I think using sheets of existing monster sketches from M&T (colored, of course) as a download, and a blank unit sheet with the bare bones rulebook is a must. I'Ve owned my set for years, and recently, a high school senior ran an rp session with our characters (and our squads) taking on enemy squads. FoB ran very smoothly. It's sadly under the radar, and therefore in need of even greater exposure. The focus should be it's use with C&C, but how it could be utilized with other systems. :)

I thought about writing some kind of massive siege supplement set of rules that would plug into the Field of Battle and be usable for all other basic fantasy/ancient history gaming needs. The idea came to me early this year while watching Ironclad...
