Neato. What about the thief and magic-user? How are they different from the wizard and rogue?

Sounds similar to the Arduin conversion. :)

Samesies. Ditto. Me too. I also. THIS.

Just to be clear: I concur.

EDIT: Ordered! I hope I am part of the 300. I'd hate my black box to be jealous of my white box, only to be further shamed when I buy a copy of the 20th Anniversary Gray Box.

No regular classes. The four are unique or, at the least, twists on existing stuff. I found both the Thief and Magic-User to be pretty awesome as well as the Archer and Adept.

It's a fun little thing and nice to have but unlike the White Box, you need something else to play the contents of this set with (either the White Box, Player's Handbook or other compatible rule set).

The dice in it are awesome... All black with orange numbers.

One of the other neat things about volume 1 of the books (the ones with the classes) are the pre-assembled lists of gear.

Yeah. Those pre-assembled gear lists are pretty cool. Sometimes it's nice to pick what you want but when you're quickly making characters for people joining store demos, it's really handy.

I've had "pre assembled lists of gear" in my House rules for 3 or 4 years now. Lists I happily stole from a poster who may or may not still frequent these forums.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

Interesting. Doesn't Of Gods & Monsters have an Avatar for each God in the pantheons? They're all like 20-something level, basically the God comes in mortal form, can be killed but will reform. Is this something similar then? A playable class of a PC become self-aware of god-hood over time?

Just received my Black Box. Number 71 of 300. The magic-user isn't a different take on the wizard class so much as a C&C version of an Artificer. He makes magic items and effects. :) I am not sure if I would allow one in my campaign at present but it does make an interesting preview and raise curiosity about the full class to come in the hardcover version of the Adventurer's Backpack.

They didn't even ship until a week after my order, but if I am lucky, it might get here tomorrow.

Mine arrived today and I just opened it (before hitting the hay and finishing up posting an update to my Thieves in Eskadia campaign log thread in the Haunted Highlands' forum). I received #79 of 300. Hoody-hoo!

I won't get to read it aside from the cursory look-through I gave it, but the box, books, cards, and dice are great looking! Now to wonder if the either of the two players in my thief-PC's-only campaign would be interested in using the Black Box thief instead of the standard C&C PHB rogue...

I slew the Shrink Wrap of Devastating Guilt Trips (SWDGT) using my trusty Dull Penknife of Cutting Things in a Way that Takes Much Longer than with a Traditional Penknife (DKCTWTMLTP).

I bought 2, one to keep in shrink and one to use. The one I opened is 59/100, the other is unknown until I perfect my Scry spell.

Mine arrived today, I don't see a number anywhere, so guess I got one of the unnumbered ones. :(

Anyways, I like the new Classes, definitely puts a very different flavor on them. I'm not excited about the Mage making magic items at significantly lower levels, but I like most of what I have read, and those back pack lists are much better than the ones I currently have. I'll need to get those added to my House Rules Document before my next campaign.

Some of the new spells are very unlikely to ever be used, but I see a fair number of them getting used, and I like the expansions to the Golden Familiar adventure.

The number on mine is on the underside of the top of the box near the bottom. I assume that is where they all are.
