Why do I do this to myself?

Post by angelius »

Hi everyone, it's been a while since I've last posted. But I'm happy to be back.

I always leave CnC and play a ton of other RPGs like Conan, Serenity, D&D and I always end up coming back here. I guess after a while you need a change of scene or something! But this is certainly a testament to the greatness of CnC as a system and game with outstanding support for its fans!

Anyways getting to the point I've noticed a few things going on here, just wondering about them.

1. Those character sheets for sale are they any good? Whats the opinion of them?

2. I see that the CKG is still in the works.

3. How goes the CK screen?

4. And those faux leather books are so kick ass... I only wish I had the $ for it.

Hey Angelius, nice to meet you.
I can understand your need for a "change of scenery" every now and then. I think that's something that all gamers, regardless of their chosen system, go through. Granted, I haven't been playing C&C long (a few months), but when I feel like this, I just look in my bookcase at all of the different RPG's and settings that I own - and start converting.
The SIEGE engine is the best system for my style of play, so if there's a game who's elements and setting that I really like (like Warhammer, Iron Kingdoms, Deliria, etc.) I just plan on porting it over to the SIEGE engine. So far, it's been alot of fun as converting is pretty darn simple (especially if it's a D20 product).

Anyways, that's my two cents' worth.

Hi angelius. Good to see you here!
The Player Character Reference Sheets are most excellent. Great layout on goldenrod paper with each class having it's abilities printed right on the page! And the first few pages of the booklet has the armor, weapons and equipment charts printed, so you don't need the PH, except for spell selection.

Yes, I really like the character sheets and so do my players. They like having an outline of class abilities printed out for them. In fact they are working on deleting out the other classes listed on their sheet to put in their half-elf or elf racial abilities. They are trying to do it in a basic paint program, so we will see.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

I like the character reference sheets. We haven't switched over to them, but I leave them out for quick reference to the class abilities and equipment charts.

There's nothing wrong with taking a break from one system now and then! Even though C&C is hands down one of the best systems I've ever played, there are plenty of other good systems to try. Indeed, I've got quite a backlog to attend to after finising the current C&C campaign (years away, probably).

Don't ever limit yourself to one system, it closes doors to the possiblty of fun. I will personally only ever run C&C (that is forever, or until my books disintegrate) but I will play almost any system. I am currently playing in a d20 modern gamed and a new WoD game and they are both fun. Just remeber the GM should pick the system, you just have fun with it, thats the key to good roleplaying.

I don't limit myself to one system either. I own a bunch, such as Shadowrun (from 2nd to 4th edition), Legend of the Five Rings, Chivalry and Sorcery, RIFTS, Paladium Fantasy, Traveler, BESM (Tri-Stat and d20), Traveller (all versions except the one just before T20), Sorceror, Witchcraft, Mutants and Masterminds, MERP, and Paranoia, to name a majority of what I own and like. I also own GURPS, Pendragon, and others.

I'll play any of them and even GM/DM most of them. So I am definitely in the "don't limit yourself to one system" camp.

I actually like to have some variation in my games. C&C is my favorite fantasy game, but I still enjoy Call of Cthulhu and World of Darkness games.

I'm the type that enjoys owning, and playing, multiple systems. To me, the best thing about C&C, is that I can, very easily, grab stuff from all this "outside" stuff and use it all at once, with little apparent change. Yeah, the mechanic might change, but the feel is still there. C&C is a good bridge.

I think the change of scenery thing is a good idea, too. I've played a bunch of different systems through the years, and had fun with almost all of them (although I have my favorites, of course).

I'm currently running both C&C and Lejendary Adventure, and have some plans for one-shots or mini-campaigns with True20 and Call of Cthulhu (BRP version).

I agree hands down C&C is the best fantasy game out there. (Speaking from a DMing point of view) I'm also an owner and slutty DMer. I love to try tons of different games with my group. But we keep coming back to C&C at the end of the day.

We even tried the WEG Ghostbusters RPG recently during our hiatus from C&C! And really the Serentiy RPG is ranked second best in my group. But ultimately C&C is tops.

Besides its nice to come back after almost half a year to see how things have changed and what new products are out there. When I was first here, we were still awaiting the M&T! I'm glad to see that C&C is going strong!

ps. As far as the faux leather books go, I tried reading up on it but haven't found much. Other than a personalized page in the front, what else can we do to it? Or is that it as far as customization goes?

Paranoia was a great game. I still play it once in a while or encorporate aspects of it into a different RPG system I created. Heck, even TSR's Buck Rogers was a solid system - not my favorite TV character but the game mechanics were decent.

Heck, I'll try any game once.

And no doubt, C&C is a solid, easy to learn and smooth moving RPG game.

I agree with the majority. There's nothing wrong with trying other things. It's not like the C&C police drop in and crash your game if they find you playing another system. At least, I don't think they do...

...and that's the last we ever heard of him.

I find that I'm using C&C exclusively for my fantasy stuff, but Alternity remains by far my favourite system for SF (and it succesfully fended off a takeover attempt from Serenity).
