World of Phantasie Map & Campaign Project

Post by ArgoForg »

Greets all!

I know there's every possibility this could be put into the Artist's Alley.... but that's all good. Anyway, I'm starting to get really close to finally finishing the full-on map for my campaign world, World of Phantasie...

Image

... and the even better news is that our initial work has started on the oh-ficial World of Phantasie Campaign Book! WoP is ideally designed to be a high-magic campaign world with additional classes, religions, roles, magic, creatures and optional rules for play with the Castles & Crusades RPG ruleset. More details as it comes along, but naturally, this all has me pretty excited, so I had to share!

Bro, this map looks sweet. If it's anywhere near as sweet at that convention game a few years ago in Indiana, the World of Phantasie is going to be great! Looking forward to it.

Sexy. I like the texture. On some canvas, I am reminded of Ultima.

We need a zoom in version.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

I could be wrong, because I often am (and it could be just because I'm logged in to my PB account)... but I think you can see it zoomed. if you click on the picture above, it will bring you to the photobucket page with this pic... then you can click on the magnifying glass in the lower right (brings up a slightly larger version), and then click the magnifying glass again, it should bring up the full size map (which is huge, be warned).

If not, tell me, and I'll find a way to show it!

After two or three clicks it takes me to a very large version of it, where I have to use slider bars to navigate around, but no "zoom" option comes up. So maybe the large version is the most we can zoom in?

If you haven't seen them, check out Anna Meyer's Greyhawk maps, you can zoom way in on hers.

Ahhhh, okay! Yeah, the large version isn't necessarily the most you can zoom in, but it is the most you can on Photobucket. I'll have to take a looksee and see what sort of viewer she uses to allow for that kind of navigation, because it's waycool! On a side note, that is some ridiculously phenomenal detail!

That is a really sweet map. My mapmaking skills are not quite so refined, so I definitely appreciate the work you must have put into this! Great Job!

The old SSI game? Sadly, despite the name, no.

I wish I could say that it's even influenced by the SSI game, but I was never lucky enough to own it (or the sequel(s?)) for it to have an influence on me, positive or negative.

I was very aware of the game-- at least by name-- during my formative years, though. I remember seeing the advertisement for it in RUN Magazine, and wanting to get it, and even firing off a note to SSI to get a full catalogue of their games, and that was one of the tops of my want list for a long time... but by the time I was making enough regular money to actually be able to afford to order anything, our Commodore had bitten the dust.

It was one of the first games I got back in the day with my Apple IIc, the first being Infocom's Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. I had a friend with a C64 playing the Phantasie, so he'd draw out the maps at lunch. It was on that game I learned about saving my place before combat and turning off the the computer if I was doing horribly and restarting it.

I'm surprised it hasn't made it to Good Old Games yet (along with the rest of the Phantasie Seris and the D&D Pool of Radiance stuff) as I'd be willing to pick up for a 5-spot and take a trip down memory lane.

Questron, Ultima IV, and Phantasie were my 3 favorite games on our C64 back in the day. Man those were such good times!

I loved SSI games. Roadwar 2000 was my favorite, followed by Sword of Aragon. We also owned Pool of Radiance.

Sorry for highjacking the thread

Ah, Roadwar 2000 was awesome, as was wasteland! My brother played the heck out of Pool of Radiance but I wasn't allowed to play it - I'm youngervand he was afraid I would mess up hi saved games  by the time he was done I was playing other games and didn't go back.

Edit: Since we're showing covers...
Questron - the first video game I played where a poisonous creature actually poisoned you sometimes when it hit:

Oh, and another good game was Autoduel!

*Loved* Wasteland -- as did my brother. So much so that we both backed the Wasteland 2 Kickstarter in late 2012.

I couldn't bring myself to back it - just couldn't justify the funds and, frankly, I just don't play video games anymore, so really no reason to back it. I did think it was interesting and, despite the assertion I just wrote, I wavered back and forth about backing it for weeks!

I probably won't play much of it anytime soon just because the spare time isn't there, but my hope is that one day I will -- in the rest home. ;)

For the record, both Steam and Good Old Games has the original Wasteland Available for about $5.00.

$5.99 on Steam: http://store.steampowered.com/app/259130/

$5.99 on Good Old Games: http://www.gog.com/game/wasteland_the_classic_original

Wished Autoduel, Pool of Radiance and Twilight 2000 would be released at some point as well.
