Ranged weapon bonus damage

Post by Omote »

OK, help me out. Do ranged weapons such as a bow or a thrown knife add a STR bonus to damage? Where in the PHB2 is this. Please help.

I think a thrown weapon adds Str bonus, but a propelled weapon doesn't. Check pg 117 of the PH.

Thrown weapons (those propelled by the person throwing them) receive a bonus to damage. Spears, javalins, daggers and such.

Yes

Thank y'all. For some reason I couldn't find that ONE sentance... And of course, I needed to see the written word.

Here is something I did, a guy in my game is playing a fighter who specializes in a longbow (elf, duh). He traded his access to combat dominance at 4th level for the ability to add hi dex mod to damage with ranged weapons.

I've been thinking of having mechanically propelled weapons, such as crossbows, seige weapons (ballistae, scorpions, dragoons, and the like) add Intelligence modifier as a damage modifier, but have not really decided one way or the other.

Otherwise, all physically powered weapons, from the fist of the character, to the dagger thrown... add Strength modifier to damage.

I like this idea. It is similar to how my BASH! system uses Mind as the base damage of all ranged attacks-- your INT/Mind helps you aim, and thus, pull off deadlier attacks against ranged targets.
