Rejoice.. Oh, Wait.

Razzing, frazzing high technology computer dog f*c*s and the degrees I have that say I understand this junk.

Anyway, yeah, so I got a new video card, and I install it (mostly) and just as I'm about to enjoy it, the monitor dies. Goes dim, and then, flickers to black. And no, I did not turn it off. Luckily, I was able to pull some stuff from my hard drive to the thumb USB I snagged, so I can at least look at my work in progress.

Now, I'm thinking my video card wasn't fried at all... but the monitor was acting all uppity and smacking poor little card around. Bastard electronics.

Though luck serleran, I have had some things like that with my computer being off for about 4 months in a single year, each time something different was not working any more...

Sounds like you had your refresh rate too high. Back when I was doing desktop support I saw people fry monitors by setting their resolution and refresh rate too high for the monitor. The new vidcard mightve defaulted to a higher refresh than your monitor could handle. That will fry a monitor but good.

If the new(er) [as in older and worse] video card defaulted to a higher setting... then I'll have a good time ripping it apart.

Guess I'll be looking for a replacement screen. Damn shame my "new" card doesn't support video-out, as in, to a TV...

Get a flat panel if you don't have one already. There's nothing quite like having the screen come on immediately.
