Astonishing Swordsmen and Sorcerors of Hyperborea
AS&SoH PDF is $10 at RPGNow. While the print version ($50) is truly worth getting, it seems like a pretty good bargain for the PDFs.

According to the manual it is based on AD&D 1st Ed rule set. Interesting.

Its also created by the guy who co wrote all the Zagyg stuff with Gary.Arduin wrote:According to the manual it i based on AD&D 1st Ed rule set. Interesting.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

To me, the AS&SH ruleset is the ultimate version of AD&D, AS&SH's setting is an outstandingly coherent mix of the work of Howard, Lovecraft, and Smith, and AS&SH's production values are among the best that the OSR has produced.
As it happens, I prefer something a little looser and easier rules-wise than AD&D, and while I love the stories of those authors, I'm more interested in bringing the flavor of those stories into my games than in actually playing in an amalgamation of their universes.
Having said all of that, I really admire what Jeff put together and heartily recommend it as, at the very least, being well worth a read.

I ran AS&SH a few times at conventions. If I am ever going to run AD&D again, it will be AS&SH without a second thought. I see Jeff Talanian's product as the defining AD&D rules set. It is unparalleled and I consider it one of, if not the single greatest piece of OSR-like product ever made. Alas, my players have decided that they have no interest in going back to AD&D-style rules. For that reason alone, I do not get to run it.

I've seen Jeff at Gary Con and NTRPG Con. We talked quite a bit, but I still need to take a closer look at his product.
