PCs part-owners of a Tavern, how much will they earn a month
PCs part-owners of a Tavern, how much will they earn a month
Does the CKG contain any guidelines for income earned for various businesses? The PC's made a financial investment into a local tavern to become part-owners. We are approaching the first 30-day anniversary of the date they invested in the tavern and will expect equity (payment) of their share of the monthly profit. Before I get too involved with working out the details, I was hoping to find a reference in the CKG or other source that would help give me guidelines. Thanks!

Re: PCs part-owners of a Tavern, how much will they earn a m
If a good business makes 5% profit, a great one 10%, how much goes through the doors?
5 copper per mug of ale x 100 patrons per night x 3 beers per patron x 7 nights x4 weeks = 42,000 copper or 420 g.p. lets assume 7% on the first month, so 29.4 G.P.
This likely the most profitable sales item, could be mead or shots but not likely and the food kind of brings in the drink. Gambling cut for the house? 5%?
Might be the reason bars come and go and bar tenders tend to be fat (eating left over greasy cuts) and unclean... at least in stories... so tweak the numbers per above and your key sales items.. make them keep a book and set their prices... then start a bar down the street to keep their prices honest..
Cheers, Capt K

(As I open a Sam Addams' Fizzywig Christmas Ale )
How good is the Ale? How nice is the barkeep. How loyal are the customers?
That said, I like Captain K's breakdown of it.

As an RP item, how much were they promised? I'd give them 10-20% less than that as I doubt that there are any forensic accountants in the adventuring group.rom90125 wrote:Does the CKG contain any guidelines for income earned for various businesses? You forgot the souvenirs. You have to offer T-shirts and mugs with the tavern name emblazoned on them.

Heads up, Trolls. Wages for tavern owners simply must be in CKG II.
Re: PCs part-owners of a Tavern, how much will they earn a m
Meh. I have plenty of other resources to draw on, such as Magical Medieval Society: Western Europe and Silk Road, both from Expeditious Retreat Press, or my own experiences as a business owner and CCO of a charity.tylermo wrote:Heads up, Trolls. Wages for tavern owners simply must be in CKG II.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

The characters could sell advertising space on their shields? Kind of like Medieval bumper stickers? Think about what a shield sticker would say?
"My other shield is Mithral" or "Dents are Us - Lou's Armor Shop"

Re: PCs part-owners of a Tavern, how much will they earn a m
I don't have much of an answer, but if they start to make too much... thieves! barroom brawls that break everything... tables and chairs can be expensive, so can mugs. Extortion from the local thieves guild... arson, accident, extortion from local brewers, licensing, etc...
this can get boring, so you need a trusted NPC to run the nitty gritty money boring parts... who can be totally trusted, of course.... rats, rats are a problem if left unchecked. so are phase spiders in the wine cellar.

Remind me to picnic on the lawn to avoid your taverns!

Re: PCs part-owners of a Tavern, how much will they earn a m
Does this tavern have any side "business" in the wenching department? What about soliciting clients to formulate cover and illicit deals such as acting as a front for stolen goods or being a safe haven where assassins may meet their "Joes?" As a potential holder of stock in the success of this establishment, there are way too many questions without answers... and that is regardless of alignment, which is sure to be a heavy hitter on what the tavern is "allowed" to do.

My habitual 'good guy' forgets things like that. But, like your mention alignments allows ...serleran wrote:Does this tavern have any side "business" in the wenching department? Have fun with it, put the profit of the pub on the side of alignment they can't allow. Or, even more fun, make the profit dependent on something they won't allow!
