Norse Giant Spells

Post by Captain_K »

Running with the concept that Norse giants are more intelligent and more magical than the normal M&T giants (taller too), any suggested spells for Archaic (Wizard and/or Illusionist) Frost and Fire Giant spell casters for up to 13th lvl?

Not only spells out of the PH and CnC, but custom or modified or spells from Cleric/Druid that would fit...

Thanks, I want some nasty surprises for my group tomorrow...

You three, stop reading here... keep in mind I will tweak or invert if I suspect.... be good, the reward will be worth it. ;}

Just a spell use idea. The PCs are walking across the floor of an ice cavern and a fireball hits melting the ice where they are. They sink to their waist. A second spell (from another giant) goes off later in same combat round. A Cone of Cold. Refreezing the water. PC's stuck waist deep (or neck deep if halflings). :o

As one that love playing halflings ... that is just wrong! ;)

That said, that is close to what I was thinking. Give the fire giants spells like flame strike, fire storm, fire ball etc etc etc. Ice giants have cold strike, ice storm etc etc etc.

Spells and magic users are my weakness so I don't know specific spells that fit but you get the idea. However, I do like the idea of Norse Giants having spells in addition to what normal giants do.

I got a few ideas up my sleeve, and the above spells is where I was headed, some are just renaming and changing affects "water walk" is "snow walk", blindness is "snow blind", Slow "Chill to the bone", etc.

But the use of spells and surrounding elements sounds like fun.. how to play with Lava should be fun too!

Here's a puzzle, A Fire Giant Chieftain who is also a powerful wizard goes out "hawking" to pass the time... what is his "hawk" and what does he hunt for fun??? Riddle me that one... I got some ideas, but the more the merrier.. ;}

If you have the Rune Lore book, have the giants be Runemarks.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

I like that.

I was thinking about a quasi-fire elemental shaped like an eagle or something like a phoenix (to keep the fire theme going)

Hunting, elk, reindeer, and Remorhazes (or other artic animals and monsters). I think the Polar owlbear is an even better idea than mine ! *** Consider that idea for a monster yanked and added to my homebrew!

oh yeah, a Remorhaaz is cool (pun intended) too! maybe the giant is hawking for a white dragon and gets in over it's head and in a twist, the PCs end up saving it so it let's them go.

or something,

They have met the cliff (stone) giants and passed all their tests without battle, next up are the Giant's of the Norse Keel Range.. so this could be ugly... we'll see how they survive the first batch of Frost Giants... But I think you will enjoy the Fire Giant's "Hawk" I will post it here or in the Monsters section after the players experience it, but I'll give you a hint,... Let's play CnC SAT... "Eagle is to Griffin as Falcon is to ____?"
