Re: Monday Night Kingdoms of Kalamar Game
We could have spent a little less time deliberating on direction last night, but all in all it was a good session. What to do next though? I think we continue with the hit and run tactics, targeting the trackers and leaders. It would be nice to find out how they are tracking us too. I'd like to attempt a snatch and run on that shaman. We need to get enough breathing room to rest up and regain spells first though.

Rgr that on both of those
I say we bolt from our hole - taking the tower with us, the weak in a fight push ahead with , barleg, gravelbeard & lupa fights a rear guard / Ausie peal. until we break contact with this group. then the ranger hides our trail, and sets counter trails. Then we all get ahead and get some rest, (replenish spells) and then start doing cat and mouse hunting of their trackers and clerics shaman .
we can handle a lot of nugs in the fight, but we want to take the spell slingers down as much as possible (and the rangers so we can keep ahead and get some breathing room) before the big fight. Assume that there is a cleric/spell caster for every 50 to 100 of them from what we have seen thus far. So 10+ and then the big bad guy shaman.
Sorry my coms went south last of the game. I know you all understand and everything, but it annoys me when it happens ...

Re: Monday Night Kingdoms of Kalamar Game
ok, I had time this evening to dig into my character (Sorley) while my girls were at ballet and soccer practice.
I have my 2 4th level spells left, but they won't help much with the escape - though before we bolt I could do divination to see where the best location for our big fight is 77% chance of success (minus any negatives)
I haven't used any of my 3rd level spells, but they wont help either
I have 1 2nd level and 2 st level spells left - darkness and sound bursts being the most useful on the escape.
Darkness on one side of the valley/cut, and the ranger or druid's entangle on the other side should get us out of the valley. After that , Barleg, gravel beard the ranger and lupa have the running fight aussie peal to get away from them and kill any that pursue out of the gait. my last sound bursts and the elf's bow should help
Then the ranger can try and mask our trail and the druid can use pass without trace - assuming he has it - then lay some false trails. That should get us the breathing room we need to get away, rest and start hunting them.
What spells do the mage and the druid have that I've not considered ? anything may help ...

I'll be about 1/2 hour late tonight. Feel free to start without me. Like Lurker referred to above, I have an Entangle spell ready to go.

Hey guys, I threw my back out this morning. Not honing to run my game tonight. I'm gonna try to get some rest instead. Maybe Tree can run A&8.

Re: Monday Night Kingdoms of Kalamar Game
I'm not sure what game is slotted for Monday.
Either way, I may be late. My oldest girl has a 4H "cooks' challenge" Monday after school. This is the first year her school has had anyone in 4H at her age able and willing to participate. Sooooooo no one knows how long it will take.
Who knows all the years of watching 'Good Eats", Chopped "Cutthroat Kitchen" and the like may pay off. That plus having them help me cook in the kitchen almost every Saturday or Sunday ...

Re: Monday Night Kingdoms of Kalamar Game
Great game last night.
Now, I had a looooonnnnnggggg day of boring pointless training today. So, I had long hours to let my wind wander and plan. From that :
Our options are
The conservative/safe option, lock ourselves in the tower and make them come and try to pry us out. The up side, is it is the safest, and we make them come at us across the stream and up the rock. That will allow us to rain death down on them (doing lots of damage to the nugs and cannon fodder, but iffy on the shaman and leader getting close for an easy kill, at least in the early attempts to breach us). The down side, long time consuming and boring ... Plus, being hobgoblins, the may think of an evil clever (bloody brutal) way to tempt/force us out of the keep.
The running rabbit option, us using the dark and them pulling back to try and bolt (hopefully more successfully this time). With this we could spread them out and again kill lots of nugs/cannon fodder (but will not easily get to the head bad guys) - Personally, I think the time has past for this option.
The Hero option, take the hobgoblin war leader's challenge and meet them for the duel. It will make the best story, but it is the risky. One on one, we've shown the ability for all 4 of our main fighter types to stand toe to toe with some big baddies (even Lupa has killed 3 giants in one fight with no help, and Barleg, Sarosis and gravelbeard are all as good or better in their own niche ... However, their champion looked to be a brute (lots of str bonuses) and odds are he has a magic weapon - worst case a hobgoblin version of Barleg's 'elf bane'. so it may not be that easy. Plus, can we trust them to keep it a fair fight ... The war leader maybe, but their spell slingers ????
The raider option. hit them tonight ... We are fairly full on spells - I've cast water control, and used 2 of the daily cure charges from my staff. Our mage is already in their camp. He can do an aerial recon, get the HVT located, we can sneak out of the tower, Sarosis and Lupa sneaking around to a good point, and the rest being the 3rd prong of the attack. the mage can drop 3 delayed fireballs (timed to go off at once) around the leader's and the shaman's tent - I'd argue more importiant to kill the spell slingers in the fire ball blasts than the leader and champion, and use his elven cloak to remain hidden. once the fire balls do their thing, we can use the smoking bottle, entangle and sound burst to develop the battle ground, and rush the leader and shamen if they survive the fire balls. Then let the dice fly high ...
I do have a question or 2 on some of my spells (I'll PM Rigon on it tomorrow) to help fine tune the plan.
Of them all I like the raider option, but I am me and Lupa is Lupa, so will be drawn to that plan...
If you can think of another idea, or modify any of them, let work out a plan prior to the nest game. Then hope luck (and the evil maptools dice roller) are kind to us

Re: Monday Night Kingdoms of Kalamar Game
I too like going on a raid. Sarosious should operate well in this scenario. I'd also go for 1 on 1 combat with their champion. I have +7 damage to every hit as a combat marauder, which could be significant. The question is whether or not a AC of 21 is good enough to fend off enough blows. I agree that their champion is likely to have augmented strength.
