How do you have your players roll hit dice?
Re: How do you have your players roll hit dice?
Hit Points: Max Hp's at first level. d4 HD reroll 1's, d6 and d8 reroll all 1's and 2's, d10 and d12 reroll 1-3's. You can also ask me about "take the CK's roll" before you roll for your HP.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

Oh, Tree...you're getting soft in your old age.
I've been giving max HP at 1st level, too. But after that, what they roll is what they get. I think playing through some of these hardships is what makes a memorable character later on...if they survive!
If I was playing a truly old-school game (1e, B/X. BECMI, or clones of these), I'd probably make them roll at 1st level, too.

Nope. Its just very, VERY easy to kill PC's, so I make it a tiny bit easier for me to keep them alive. Ask all my players on this forum. Ask them how many PC's died just a session or two ago, and how many more would have died if not for some judicious use of Dispel Magic, etc... and they are 9th and 10 level. Ask Kayolan, Rigon, Aramis, Gabriel, Lurker, Rhuvein, Rom, and Arrowhawk. Nothing "soft" about me or my games. Brutal is much more accurate.Lord Dynel wrote:Oh, Tree...you're getting soft in your old age.![]()

I was just giving you a hard time, hoss. PCs are fragile creatures, indeed.Treebore wrote:Nope. Its just very, VERY easy to kill PC's, so I make it a tiny bit easier for me to keep them alive.
