Ok, so I've been looking at these Attack Wing type games since Fantasy Flight Games released X-Wing. My understanding it is based off of an earlier air combat game called Wings of War (or perhaps wings of glory). Key thing is using a template to measure distances, and a card mechanic with dice to resolve conflict. Interestingly, it appears that game was based off of an FFG Silver line game called "Wreckage" (Car combat) similar to Steve Jackson Games "Car Wars".
Then Wizkids with Star Trek Attack Wing (slight variation, but capital ships - which we should see this year for FFG with Star Wars: Armada), and the topic at hand "D&D Attack Wing" both air and ground combat miniatures in the D&D Universe.
As far as space combat type games, I only have Battle Fleet: Gothic. The miniatures are assembled and I have both an Ork & Space Marine Fleet in various stages of repair (and paint), along with a few (3 Each) Imperial and Chaos ships from the core box set (I smashed 1 of each to create an Ork Space Hulk). So I've been pondering getting the Star Wars (tactical), Star Trek (capital) or Armada (capital) versions, but know that it would see about as much use as my BFG. So when I walked in my FLGS and they had D&D Attack Wing, I figured I'd give that a try, as I can always use the Dragons in a C&C or other RPG.
Right out of the box, I really like the minis and the fiddly bits. Though I feel bit limited with the 3 Dragons only. Perhaps they'll do an "army box" at some point. It's about assembled, just sorting through the box and then I'll need to sleeve the cards (yeah I'm one of those guys). Once I give it a try I'll post some more.
Anyone else give this a try?
