Car Wars

Post by TheMetal1 »

So an interesting quote from the "Daily Illuminator" over at SJ Games.
After Munchkin, David and I spent time on Car Wars, talking both about the new edition and support for Car Wars Classic, and I'll deny it if anyone says the words "plastic" and "miniatures" came up during our Car Wars discussion.
Here is the link if you want to read the full text: http://www.sjgames.com/ill/archive/Janu ... rom_Prague

So Classic Car Wars is out, but can we expect perhaps a larger plastic Car Wars set with the new edition? Perhaps tiles or boards instead of paper maps? maybe ones that link together? Thoughts?

I wish it would come with an engraved metal turn/move template.

I think a Car Wars KS was mentioned near and at the end of the OGRE KS.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.
Sounds obvious to me! -Gm Michael

I should have gotten in on Ogre, but got the retro Ogre 3.00 game. As for Car Wars I got busy, and forgot to get one. Apparently, it was sold out an area game store. Still need that one.

Indeed it was. Don't know when they'll do it though.

Seems like they're using Car Wars "Classic" as a test-bed. If so, the first print run sold out and I'd call it a win.

That being said, I was disappointed with it. First box I got from Amazon was crushed, so I sent it back. When I got the second one, I opened it and noticed a few things.

1. It's the same Length and Width as a Munchkin box, but half as deep.
2. A crappy double sided map, with instructions telling us to "tape it down" to the table.
3. One flimsy cardboard turn-key. Ala 1980s. No change.
4. Black and white rule-book stapled together.
5. Several sturdier (i.e. thicker) cars and motorcycles. Same size, with the same picture front and back.

IMHO a big whiff. I get they want to make it classic, but simple things like - two turn keys the same thickness as the cars would have been great. If they kept the munchkin box depth they could have added card-stock (same as the cars) interlocking maps, with an endless road one side and an arena on the other.

I do like Car Wars and am glad to see them working towards it. If they double the size of the cars and go plastic car miniatures, and/or make them Matchbox/Hotwheels compatible with glue one guns, etc. I'd be quite happy. Granted the playing size, will double, but I'm ok with that.
