I was never into "steam punk" at all, but Mad Monocle Mike showed me just how cool the feel and imagery can be, and I've been into it ever since. I really wouldn't look at Victorious as traditional steam punk, its really a world where Supers really exist, so the technology has simply taken a leap in odd ways due to the super brains that have been born. So the world is still the Victorian period, but there are people running around wearing suits of "iron", shooting ray guns of some kind, and even flying! Plus you can still have your Dr Strange or Dr Fate types as well. The over all world, though, is the Victorian era, trying to deal with all these crazies running around.
Tree, thanks for the explanation.
However, in general, I'm not into suppers games either. Steampunk/heroes what ever you label it, my first reaction is it isn't a setting I could pull off GMing. My mind just isn't set up to picture a story in detail that would make a good game in that setting. That said, I'm sure I'd love a game that had a GM that could invoke that feel and imagery.
Now, what does draw me to the game (in addition to all the good words you and others have said about it) is the grim side of the game. As you know I habitually play the good guy. However there is also a dark grim/horror element to my personality and interests (back in the day Beyond the Supernatural was my second favorite game and the one I GMed the most) With that I could see myself running a game - in the distant future - using the rules to run a grim, Colonial-Victorian setting.
