If you could have any artwork on the cover of your PHB...

Post by slimykuotoan »

...what would it be?

Pour moi, I think I'd like the newest cover of the adventure: Wicked Cauldron.

For Peter Bradley, TLG artwork I'd select:

I loved this Elmore piece since 1989. I'd vote for this too:

I'd go with O's Elmore piece. That to me says "ADVENTURE" in all it's glory.

For TLG artwork, I already have it on my 1st print cover.

If we're talking about existing C&C art, Peter Bradley's original ck screen artwork.

Frazetta's Death Dealer as my PHB cover would make me a very happy death dealing CK!
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

Uhhh, yeah ~ that would be Hans Rudolph Giger.

And now I have to forget this post, thread and any thoughts of his fantastic artwork, or my screaming nightmares from Brain Salad Surgery and Alien will begin anew!

That Rune Lore cover would be killer I think.

Not to be too cliche, but to me, the best cover ever for a player's book for a fantasy dungeon delving game is this

Image

It has everything. Dark dungeon, stone walls, evil serpentine guardians, flaming braziers, two adventurers discussing a treasure map, a wizard leaning on his staff, speaking companionably to a warrior, both weary after the battle, and the piece de resistance: two rogues trying to prise a ruby gem from the eye socket of the statue of a disgusting demon lord to whom the foul temple had been dedicated.

It has never been surpassed. Thank you Tramp!

Yeah, that's why I like the 5th printing PHB exterior so much. The rear cover is basically that.

That Trampier cover is among the best. Almost met him last year. He was scheduled to be at a small convention in Southern Illinois. Somebody we all know was going to drive up, and meet with him. Anyway, Tramp was one of the giants of the field.

I would go with a custom work by Brom.

Or, just a solid black cover. No text. No image.

I like a lot of Angus McBride's MERP art for cover material
http://img-fan.theonering.net/~rolozo/i ... gus010.gif
or from the Crusades
http://media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/ ... 37a488.jpg
or Viking themed
https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/73 ... 9c84f5.jpg

I also enjoy the HarnMaster 3rd Edition cover style of art
http://www.agorajeux.com/4817-5908-larg ... nworld.jpg

and the new HarnWorld, medievalish style art
http://www.columbiagames.com/pix/5001-h ... -cover.jpg

And many, many more. So much to choose from!

A solid black cover? It could be like the Smell the Glove album from the movie This is Spinal Tap. "The question is, how much more black can this album be? And the answer is none. None more black."

It would be something by Erol Otus. I will have to think about which particular work, though. Tough call.

I could also go with The Seven Deadly Sins and the Four Last Things by Hieronymus Bosch.

This is from the original Monster Manual II... but the forest and the scene just evoke a real gaming emotion in me. I would love this as a PHB cover.

Anything Ian Baggley came up with for the assignment would be fine.

I always felt bad for those lizard guys in this picture actually. They were just living their lives, worshiping their demon idol, when adventurers come along. Reavers and plunderers...
