It's pretty neato. Personally, I like the corner squares and the king's throne (center square) to have a contrasting color but it's simple enough to draw a rune or something in them. I laminated my board when it came with my box of goodies from the Codex Nordica. only played a little once, but I've also seen the game at a local Ren Fest over the summer.

The TLG one has nice stones as playing pieces.
