Cleric. I don't necessarily like this class the best, but I play it the most ~ probably because it's easier to run in online games where I have done the lion's share of my gaming.

If I played in more ftf games, I would play other classes for sure.

For me, I usually end up with fighter; it's just an easy, straightforward class to play, and you're sure to always be in the thick of things.

I'm "Mr. Good guy" soooooo Paladin.

Following that, Ranger, with a close 3rd of a Fighter/thief - Swashbuckler type. That is why I's so glad Rigon is letting me try & play test my Swashbuckler home brew class.

Flip side of the coin, my least played class - Mage .... I'm just not set up to play a spell slinger ...

I usually am the Dungeon Master for C&C so I don't get to play much. :)

The only character I have played under C&C was an elven Wizard / ½ Fighter. I chose this only because the group lacked a wizard. The campaign lasted until nearly 7th level before it went on hiatus.

Fighter, with Paladin and Knight a very close second.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

So far the class I've played most is the cleric. Spells, armor, fighting... its a great mix of abilities and I had a blast playing!

Now you just need, "Multi-Class" with two or three to pick to create the multi..

I've played more druids than anything else of C&C.

Druid.

If multi-class options are considered, druid/magic-user, preferably as a gnome.

It is beyond versatile.

I only get to play at Gary Con (I am the CK otherwise). I've played a monk the last 3 games. I really need to branch out to another class this year. Clerics are awesome. Who doesn't like playing a front line fighter with spells? Druids can be very sweet as well. Otherwise, I'd opt for a fighter or maybe a ranger.

Cleric here as well. I love the combination of durability with being able to support my fellow PCs and keep them in the fight. I find it interesting that the cleric class is in the lead – I very rarely see other people playing clerics. I think in part because everyone wants to be the hero (or villain), not the supporting character.

I think we see fewer people wanting to play clerics because they have a reputation for being lame heal-bots. I had no interest in playing a cleric for decades practically. Then, one day, I pulled my head out of my butt and looked at how much ass they kick. The only thing keeping the hordes from wanting to play clerics is the absence of a good PR firm.

Surprising to see cleric at the forefront.

Most of the posters on this forum GM at least part time. GMs know how awesome clerics are.

Indeed, BM.

And, like all classes - they get more powerful as they level up ~ might be the overall best class at higher levels!!

I don't play as much, but when I have three classes are tied for most of my plays... Fighter, barbarian, illusionist.

Clerics are pretty strong in several D&D editions and I think they are just fine in C&C as well. I would much rather play a cleric than a rogue. It seems the rogue (outside of Fourth Edition) is one of the weaker classes that folks insist someone play in the group. Folks always want a cleric and a rogue. :)

If you want to be a combat juggernaut, a thief is the last thing you want to play. Clerics are very, very powerful, especially at the higher levels, between their armor, their spells, their ability to buff themselves, they are one heck of an unstoppable tank. They may not swing a weapon with the devastation of a Fighter, Ranger, or Paladin, but their spells can more than make up for that.

Cleric. They can fight well, wear armor and cast a lot of useful spells. Having a built in conviction to serve their deity also makes them relatively straightforward to play.

I've played one ranger, one fighter, one cleric, and I have a rogue/illusionist ready for my next time playing. But after that I've already got a good fighter that I want to make. So, if this question comes back in a year or so, my answer will be fighter. :)

I'm a sampler and tend to play no one class exclusively, or even more than others. I probably play a few less than others (I don't think I've ever played an assassin, barbarian, bard, knight, or paladin).

Somebody mentioned the rogue being weak. I think that might be true at higher levels (from the CKG) where the bth for rogues and assassins is only about two points higher than the wizard. Anyway...I don't usually get to just play C&C. Most of my C&C playing between 2005-2009 was playing in convention demos with Todd Gray, Stephen Chenault, and a few other folks. In 2009, I began demoing the game at a con or two. From 2010-2015, I have been running demos at cons. I can't tell you how many sessions for sure. I even had a long-running campaign for awhile beginning in late 2011 that finally came to a halt in 2013 or 14 (with some breaks in between). During that time, I gm'd and played a cleric. In my latest campaign as ck (running since feb 2014), I have played a cleric once again. The party needed one, so I provide the healing and what not. This last time around, we all started at 2nd level. I'm at least 4th level, maybe approaching 5th. My armor class is decent, I get a fair amount of spells (factoring in my 17 wisdom), and my heavy flail does 1d10+2 (with my strength added in, of course). I think my overall attack bonus is at least a +4. Some of the mainstay spells I pray for are create water, cure light wounds, sound burst, spiritual weapon, and hold person. Not the only good ones, but these are generally apart of my arsenal.

Could the strong Cleric showing be that most replies are CKs and they must "play" the Cleric as an NPC? or our paranoia that other CKs will be out to get us so we better be able to heal?

Even as a player, I think the cleric is a strong choice. As for my last couple of campaign games if one of my players had picked a cleric, I would have played something else (for the sake of party variety).
