M&T 4th print

Post by Tadhg »

slimy mentioned in another thread that this is in colour!

Man, I was off the boards for a bit and must have missed this.

So, what do y'all think of the book and the colour??

[And he said that the next CKG will be colour as well]

Thanks! :)

To be honest, the books are quite beautiful -provided you are a 'full colour fan'.

Lol, I'm serious actually. I own both the Players and M&T in full colour, and I do admit that they are amazing visually. I just have a strong personal preference for black & white.

OK, that's it. I've got to sell my CZ Upper Works Box, so I can buy the latest PH, M&T and the forthcoming CKG!!

Not really a fan of color in M&T. Takes away the mystery and some parts of imagination for the way creatures are depicted. Sure, makes sense for the ones that described with color... but maybe I want my goblins to be teal toned and not wintergreen, or whatever. It's minor, I guess, but I prefer the critters to remain black and white.

I don't think the color illos work well at all. My theory (and no doubt Peter can jump in here and tell me I'm an idiot who doesn't know what he's talking about) is that the color illustrations are the original B&W artwork with color added. Colorizing the B&W art is not good. The images don't pop like they did originally. In some cases, the color makes it hard to make out details in the artwork. I wish they had substituted all new artwork that was in color to begin with. I'm definitely not a fan of the colorization approach.

Hmm, I might have to rethink this. :?

I think it does look great though the points brought up are certainly valid. However, the coloring for the 6th print of the PHB is far superior to that of the 5th print PHB and the quality in the M&T is consistent with the color quality of the latest PHB which is important to point out.

Overall, I am pleased with the efforts and even happier that I went for the Leathers for this one.

I am a fan of Black and White over color in general, only a true artist can do good B&W, while color hides a lot of artistic inadequacies. That put aside, while there are certain pieces in the M&T I don't really like, over all it looks really good. Which is pretty much the same thing I can say about every single color Monster book I have. My current "Most Favorite" Monster book is the one done for the new Hackmaster, but you would have to see it to understand why I like it so much, I cannot even come close to adequately describing it with just words. I am not saying its a work of beauty, but with how everything they did do comes together, I wish every Monster book was done like it.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.
