Health Update

Post by Treebore »

Well, my Doctors have finally found out why I have been feeling so crappy for no apparent reason for the last several weeks. I am missing 3+ Pints of blood. As to why I am missing 3+ Pints of blood, no idea. The usual suspects are not giving any evidence. I am not bleeding in any identifiable way. So for now they are going to go with "Anemia" for the next month, then draw more blood, and go from there. Yet, I am losing blood in some manner, but for whatever reason my Doctors think we can wait another month to see "how things go." Well, if I don't drop dead from lack of blood, hopefully things will go well. Since this blood loss has occurred since my Surgery in October and while being given Blood Thinners, I think my Doctors are being too lax about what is going on with me. Hopefully they will be right, and I will be wrong, but right now I don't like their plan.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

We thought Strahd was just some guy in a module. It was just a game. Tracy and Laura Hickman made him up.

But it wasn't true, not at all.

Unless you have a stirge hiding in the attic I would seek another opinion. You are right to think that they are being too lax over that much missing blood.

Applying the transitive property to the medieval theory of the four humours, my professional diagnosis is not that you have too little blood, but rather, you have too much phlegm. So start blowing your nose ...a lot. Like, about 3 pints of phlegm worth. See how you are feeling after that

;)

But seriously, hope you get it sorted soon.

After doing some of my own research on WebMD, I have found out that blood thinners can cause all of my problems, even without visible blood loss. I also found out that they don't have me on the blood thinner proven most effective for my problem, which is a Pulmonary Embolism, then a DVT, and most recently the Bi Lateral Pulmonary Embolism. So I sent a message to my Doctor telling him I also want to immediately switch to Xarelto, not only because its proven most effective for my issues, but also in hopes it won't cause me the same complications/side effects Warfarin is. Still, its going to take my body months to recreate over 3 pints of blood, so only time will tell.

Tyler, I am still planning on coming to NTRPGCon. My wife and I were just talking about going to it yesterday.

Is that the cause of the blood loss or what Tree will turn into to get the 3 pints he needs?

All joking aside, get well my friend. 3 pints low ain't good! I get nervous when I'm that short on 'adult beverages' much less when it is the stuff sloshing around in your body ....

Warfarin is some nasty stuff I hear...though maybe not as nasty as Cumadin (rat poison stuff). Hope it all works out Tree.

Warfarin and Coumadin are the same thing. Yes, it is used as Mouse/Rat "poison", by making them bleed to death. Its what happens when the dose gets too high.

I think what scares me the most is what kind of terrifying medical test did our friend Treebore endure to measure out all of his blood to quantify the deficit? And not only that, but those pointy heads at the VA are actually measuring it all out in pint jars!

Then again, rumour has it Keith Richards regularly has his blood recycled at a Swiss clinic, and I think we would all agree he looks like a million...years old.

Well, they do it by counting how many blood cells I have in the given sample. With the scale they use, 13+ is good, 9.2 is bad. I'm the bad. My Doctor described it to me as being over 3 pints low on Red Blood Cells, not my over all fluids. So my blood pressure and pulse are fine, we just have to figure out why I am losing Red Blood Cells, It will hopefully be because of the Warfarin, but it could be far worse things, even Cancer. Which is why I am eager to figure this out in sooner than a month.

Sadly, with the VA, it wouldn't surprise me, especially if the jars were used and only 'mostly cleaned' ;)

No, I have the good VA, the one in Tucson and the Clinic in Sierra Vista. Just not sure I have the best Doctor...

Well, being on the higher Iron regimen has not only addressed my fatigue and dizziness issues, apparently the hand tremors I have had since my hospitalization have almost stopped, I can now pick up things with barely a tremor. So apparently my loss of RBC's was causing that as well.

I am still fighting with my Doctor to get me off of Warfarin and put me on Xarelto. Apparently its a difficult drug to get in the VA system. I told him I expect the best care possible, not excuses to deny it to me.
