Know any good sources of 28mm Minis?

Post by Combat_Kyle »

Does anyone know where I can find a good source of 28mm fantasy minis? Reaper has great models, but they are 25mm, the difference in size makes a difference for me in ease of modding. Plus I like the slightly larger models, they look more heroic to me. I have looked at warhmmer fanatsy, while cool they are a bit pricey, so if anyonw knows any other sources, I'd appreicate it alot!

I also waste a lot of time playing mini war games, so have a ton of historical lead. I get most of mine form "Old Glory" and a bit from "Foundry". I usually use 25mm, but the foundry are "hefty" 25 so are probably close to what you are looking for. I'm not sure on the size of the Old Glory fantasy line.

Most of my links to different reviews & sites are on my work computer (I'm home on the wifeses computer, so don't have access to all my stuff) If no one gives you better info by tomorrow afternoon I'll dump what I can for you.

Hope this helps a bit

Actually, I would consider Reaper Mini's to be "super 25's" meaning that those miniatures are typically larger proportioned then 25mm.

If you go to the Reaper Mini WARLORD line of figs, you will find figs that you are looking for, because those ain't no 25mm figures!

If money is no object (It seem that extra 3 mm puts an extra $3 on the model) you have some choices.

First off, as Omote said, the Warlord line is good. They savvy covered most of the bases, including samuri lizard men.

There's also the Confrontation wargame, which now has a RPG game/mini line.

If you want some stuff that's visually stunning, there the Iron Kingdoms/Warmachine/Hordes line of minis. (You're players may not know what this is [http://www.privateerpress.com/HORDES/ga ... ture&id=68], but they'll be quaking in their boots.) Some of the stuff is steampunky, but hey that's just right for the GH crowd, right?
You might want to look into some SF games, turning low-tech aliens into critters such as Brom's Dark Age.

And of course there's Warhammer.

My favs is the Privateer Press stuff. If you want big stuff that's fun to paint, how can you go wrong with this (http://www.privateerpress.com/WARMACHIN ... ure&id=114) (the funky face is covering up the "1" and "4" on that url.)

I had looked at some of the warlord ones, pretty cool, Brom's Dark age is very cool. Just so you know I need the miniatures to build a Grand Lord Inquisitor and retinue for my Warhammer 40k Army. I am looking for a female inquisitor and retinue to have a one of a kind unit.

Did GW change their rules? Can you now field non-GW figs to play their game?

I'm a historical watgamer, so can't give you much more specific advice than those above. However, here is a great place to ask for more info:

TMP is a very friendly and open place to ask for advice, and I even get to plug C&C there every so often.

Check out Discount Hobby. They have a whole line of 99 ccent stuff from Mega Miniatures. Some of it is pretty darn good - very good for 99 cents. So far I have picked up the Swords for Hire and the Townsfolk. I'll be getting most of this line in the coming months. They are just too good to pass up. Here is the link:

FYI - I'm not associated with Discount Hobby or Mega Miniatures - just dig the minis and the service.

Sorry I didn't get this out Friday. Land Nav training took longer than I planned......

Here are the links I use alot. Again I do more 25mm historical, so I can't say how good the fantisy ones are or how beafy the 25mm are (foundry tends to be big).

Is Gripping Beast still around? They had awesome historical minatures. To this day I still use many of their viking and norse figs for my fantasy PCs.

There Rus line was just amazing, small but good stuff.

Last I heard, Old Glory or Foundry was distributing Gripping Beast to the States.

Anyways, sorry about being off-topic, but Gripping Beast makes some good 25mm figures.

I use Discount Hobby, Old Glory, Iron Wind, Magnificent Egos, and Reaper's Warlord for fantasy minis. Also quite a bit of Hero & HorrorClix and Mage Knight. GW is too pricey to chop up - IMO.

Gripping Beast is still around, and growing. Nice solid figures.

Vendel also has a beautiful line of Fantasy figures focused on a Dark Age feel to the LotR (without saying exactly that). I prefer them to the GW figures from the movie in most cases:
