Re: Firefly... what!?
Yeah, I am kind of surprised myself. Which makes sense, since this is the first time they have done ANYTHING even close to this since their D20 publishing days.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

Re: Firefly... what!?
Just saw that. We did sell some copies of Firefly, and the supplemental book for Margaret Weis at Gary Con this year.
Re: Firefly... what!?
I liked the TV series and Movie. Not sure how much I would like playing a table top RPG set in that setting though.
Has anyone played it?
Has anyone played it?
Re: Firefly... what!?
I haven't. I typically do not play anything based upon movies or TV series. When I do, such as Star Wars, I get as far away from what is covered in the movies and novels as I possibly can.Daniel wrote:

From what I have heard, the RPG is set in the same "world" but you do not play the cast/crew from the movie.Treebore wrote:I haven't. I typically do not play anything based upon movies or TV series. I do agree with you though, that is one of the things that turned me off from the old Conan RPG from TSR. One player plays conan and the rest of us play his Red Shirts? What a bore.
Re: Firefly... what!?
So what rules does the game use?
- from the main characters & events.

I agree with that. Book/TV/Movie settings can be good, but you have to get far far away - pun that isDaniel wrote:

Re: Firefly... what!?
I am not positive, but everything MW has done, including their Marvel Supers books, were based upon their CORTEX system. With rules variants specific to the given setting. So Leverage, Smallville, Supernatural, etc... are all CORTEX variants.Lurker wrote:So what rules does the game use?

Re: Firefly... what!?
I played a few sessions of the previous Serenity game. Not too bad. Also played some homebrew Firefly through a little known system...FAST. I think you can make that universe your own. I enjoyed it. I played Farscape back in the day. It can be done.

Re: Firefly... what!?
The Firefly RPG, much like the previous Serenity RPG, does use the CORTEX system. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing, since my players aren't keen on learning new rules.
And as was noted earlier, the best way to run a game like this is to have a totally different crew rather than play the parts of the TV characters.
I guess I'd like to know if the Trolls are just selling product from MWG or if they have any plans to actually write some Firefly modules. That could be really interesting.

Re: Firefly... what!?
The game uses the CORTEX Plus system (which isn't CORTEX, but don't ask me why). And I loved the show, not so much the movie, and it would be interesting indeed if the Trolls were to write material for Firefly (considering they all but abandoned StarSIEGE).

Re: Firefly... what!?
I've no problem with the Trolls selling other companies product, especially if the other companies help market or sell Troll products. But I'd rather not have the Trolls write for any systems but their own. They have such limited time and resources as it is, I want more C&C and AA, and now Victorious. I'd be happy to see a new Star Siege pulled into the C&C mold, like AA is. But please no time spend writing or for that matter even publishing for other companies rule sets. Most of us here saw what happened when Gygax games pulled the license for Zagyg and the Lejendary adventures material. Nearly took TLG down. Cross-marketing fine, writing/publishing for another company bad.
Re: Firefly... what!?
That means my signed (by Nathan Fillion) copy just got more expensive. Yay!

Don't ask me why either, I own both the base line CORTEX and CORTEX Plus. One is just the simple, original, version of the rules, the second is the base line plus a whole slew of options and advice on how to tweak it, etc...

Re: Firefly... what!?
I have ran some games for Firefly but not a whole campaign. We used the Margaret Weis books as sourcebooks but we used the Savage Worlds RPG system instead. Firefly is basically Deadlands in space AKA Deadlands: Lost Colony. So the SW/DL system was developed and refined to a much greater degree than the newish Serenity RPG. It worked perfect.
