C&C vs d20 Materials

Post by Daniel »

Is there a list of what products are d20 vs what are made for C&C? I am not sure how to tell from looking at the item itself.

Any guidance would be helpful.

Thanks :D

The real trick here is that Troll Lord has released many products in both formats. Some of the later C&C releases were done as d20 first. So a simple list may not help for Internet ordering. You could end up getting any version sent to you. :)

If your asking what products done only in d20 are compatible with C&C I would say both that all of them are and none of them are. The C&C system works very well with any kind of D&D on the fly for adventures and many OSR monster manuals. But things like feat books and extraneous class build books aren't very useful at all unless your doing a highly modded version of C&C.

Also, the C&C monster books do cover a great variety of monsters if you have them all.

Look at the dates they were released. If its prior to 2005 its D20, if its 2005 or later, its C&C.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

True, Tree. However, I think a few of Gary Gygax's Gygaxian Fantasy World books may have come after 2005. Those had D20 stats. My memory is faulty, but I think Cosmos Builder might have been one such book. Also, the C&C white box might have been released in 2004. However, there don't appear to be any dates on the box.

What items and where?

TLG stuff usually has either d20 or C&C on the cover.

Example: The module Mortality of Green. I have the d20 booklet and the C&C booklet.

Oh and they released a version of this before d20, but I don't recall the ruleset.

Some or mebbe all the GFW books have LA stats as well. But I'm thinking that most of them didn't have rules, just gaming material.

White Box came out in August/September of '04, I believe.

Whoa, haven't looked at my Cosmos Builder in ages.

I was referring to the nine products I own so far. It is not obvious to me thus the question.

I also would have thought such a list would have been of interest to both collectors and to people interested in the history of the game.

Going forward I will just buy products post 2005 like Treebore suggested.

Hmm, very interesting.

Which products do you have so far?

Just curious.

There was a time back when we did some lists of the published C&C material, but at some point there was so much that I don't believe we continued to maintain it.

Not counting the three core rule books (PHB, CKG, M&T) and the M&T of Aihrde, I own so far:

Heart of Glass
Night of the Spirits
A0
A1
Back to Blacktooth Ridge (Yes, I know now this was a redundant purchase)
Return to Blacktooth Ridge (Yes, I know now this was a redundant purchase)
A2
U4
DF20
Free City of Eska
Engineering Dungeons
Engineering Castles

It could be I just don't realize what I am seeing and thus it is there, but like I said it was not obvious to me.

But it does not matter now. All are dated post 2005 and thus I will just check dates before I buy something.

Thanks

I don't, because I already own everything, and can't remember if I bought it for a better price or not.

Don't worry, I get all the notifications form Tim and the Trolls, so they rub it in pretty good as it is.

We could compare price paid... I'm sure I would win.

I don't know, depends on how you rate your work versus the product you were paid with.

I don't put any value on my own work. ;)
