Elf Fighters

I was reading through the PHB again, because that is what I do when I am bored. Anyways, I realized that a long sword using elf fighter is actually very effective. They get a +1 bonus to atk for their race, +1 from class bth, +1 from class ability, and +X (i will assume ~ +2 from attributes). That's a plus 5 at level 1. Well played Elven Fighter, well played. Too bad you have no skills to speak of, you're a walking sword.

However, those of us how play the fighter with fervor and devotion understand our lot in life. Don't worry wizard, we'll do what we can to make sure you survive long enough to learn fireball. Just remember us once you have mastered wish. We want sword-chucks.

Yes, they'd have a 5% better chance to hit with a long sword than say a human. But, not as tough nor as good at overall saves due to only two primes. The lower Con means lower HP potential. NOT the best class for a an Elf to take.

If you use advantages from the CKG they can take weapon master which gives them a extra +2 to hit with a -1 to all other weapons, so if you had an elven fighter with a 18 str; +1 for level, +3 str, +1 race, +1 specialisation, +2 weapon master = +8 +4 at 1st level ( wow ! ) .

Me too! That is one reason why I got a bit excited. The elves in the Silmarillian were awesome!

As someone who has done this almost exactly you indicate, one can almost appreciate the min/maxing. Though I believe min/maxing hurts the game more than it improves it, there is a certain confidence built up when you have a +7 or more at 1st level to hit going up against a no-holds-barred CK.

Finally, a character build that can nearly stack up with Legolas Greenleaf in the Hobbit movies.

Now... min max this elf fighter with a bow instead of a sword, but with masterwork bow that has the str bonus because it's got a bad ass draw weight... (oops, 3.x rules intrusion...LOL)

Well if we are mixing in other rule sets, add in some Pathfinder Mythic levels as well.

Any class makes a good fighter and -1 to STR roll only means, not an 18.. since most folks don't have 18s not a big deal.. but all sorts of things can be improved.. or reduced simply by how you want to play the PC. The fighter is just that always 10% better than others with his favored weapon all other things being equal. Make it a race with a bonus to str and a weapon... or in the case of the elf dex and a bow and you can kick that up a bit more AND it kills at range. Greater Master works for money or magic, 19 dex and a buff spell or item... killing machines... but hey, they're fighters... its what they do.
