Running Eclipse Phase!

Post by Treebore »

Finally getting to run a 6 to 8 session story arc for this awesome RPG! I've been a big fan of it ever since our own ssfx17 ran it a few years ago. Really looking forward to all the trans humanist fun!
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

It has called out to me, but I have so much C&C, DCC, Savage Worlds, Doctor Who, and some classic games that need to be played.

Despite the fact that I ran Eclipse Phase for many months, I had to sleep on it for years before I really "got it."

I now realize that any challenges and puzzles in the game should really emphasize the things that you can do in the game. For example - destroying the bodies of party members should actually happen a lot more often, because they can just swap bodies later. Hypercorporations should be much more strict about the nanotech that people are carrying around - because they want to be the sole manufacturers of quality goods, and don't want people making their own. The GM should be more strict about what kinds of materials are needed to nanofabricate big things. Or alternately, the GM should enforce that nanofabrication takes a long time, so you can't build a gun in the middle of combat. The real damage should be to characters' sanities, as in a classic cosmic horror game.

Just some thoughts from back when I ran it. Looking forward to hearing about how your run goes.

My game is only going to be a 6 to 8 session run, so I doubt that is long enough for the things you bring up to become a issue.

Also, don't forget, you had our most dangerous missions occur where recovering our Crystals was far from assured. IE on Earth, and the other side of the gates.
