clerics rule vs undead

Post by mordrene »

I am ck in my group and we just finished shadows in the halfing hall last night. I have to say wow, the turning ability for clerics is phenomanal. the most powerful undead in the module was 5hd but turned as a 8hd. when the party's cleric (dwarven servant of moradin) tempted to turn him, he rolled an 19 which ended that encounter. when I first read the rulebook i was worried the cleric was underpowered, was i so wrong. in the future i am definately using the rule that to turn animated undead, the cl is the level of the individual who animated the undead.

The cleric in our group was very helpful in Shadows as well, but I think he missed his roll on that one. I don't really see them being overpowered, I think it was just the luck of the die, in that case.

I was lucky! The player kept on rolling crappy rolls on his Turn Undead attempts. I delivered much punishment as a result!

There are a couple of things about turning I don't like, such as the others in the party can attack the undead, and it keeps being turned. Bah! Make an offensive action against it, and the undead says "brains!!!!!!!!!!!"

I agree. Ive always played that the group can do one or the other. Turn the undead & let them go back into the shadows whence they came, (there is also a chance down the road to meet them again & if there is any intelligence left in their undead brains guess who they attack first!) or hack away & let the dice fly!
