Only 20 or so hours left on the Bundle of Holding for

Post by Treebore »

my favorite Western RPG of all time, Aces and Eights by Kenzer.

Why is it my favorite? Well, it started with the fact that the bare bones rules of the games only takes up 4 pages, and you then have lots of additional rules, and sub systems, to add on until you get your personally perfect balance of complexity versus simplicity. The basic book also includes an alternate History West, that still has the feel of the Old West, but with enough historical differences that your players won't be able to use actual history to enrich themselves, such as knowing where the gold and silver strikes will occur. My favorite subsystems are the one for Brawling, where you use poker chips, and it feels like your playing poker while a fist fight is going on. My second most favorite is the chase rules, where you use a poker deck, and the cards correlate to a wide variety of terrain conditions that help or impede your chase, or attempt to get away.

Anyways, you get a LOT of bang for your buck at this point of the Bundle, since they have added 3 additional products since its start...

You can use the Blog link to go directly to the Bundle.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

Damn. My heart wants to fill out my A&8 collection with this deal, but my head says I'm never going to get around to playing it and should save my cash.

Thats a shame. My year long Aces and Eights campaign is one of my all time favorite campaigns. Lots of great gunfights, brawls, heroic death's and great role playing.

Thought about getting this as well, but doubt I'll get around to playing it anytime soon. Looks really good with the shot clock and all that, but Bundle is over now anyway.

I still have couple of Western's that I picked up over the years, but haven't played yet:

1. Sidewinder: Recoiled - a 3.5 system, seems pretty cool
2. Gunslingers and Gamblers - Pretty cool and the one I'd like to try out first - it has a poker dice mechanic

Yeah, I have two versions of Sidewinder, one of which is D20, I also own around a half dozen other Western RPG's. My second most favorite is Coyote Trail.
