Coming Together
Since we moved into our new place back in October I've had the luxury of something I haven't had since we've had kids. A spare room. I immediately pitched the idea of a game room to my wife and she readily agreed.
With the holidays now passed, and money being a little more freed up, I'm now actually getting to start putting it together.
Our group isn't much into mini's and battle mats, so playing around a table isn't our usual set up. Most times we go for comfort with sofa's and recliners so that's the route I'm going in the game room.
I've got a couch and recliner for it now. My desk and computer are of course in there. Tomorrow I'll be adding an entertainment center and TV with a PS2.
I've ordered some of Larry Elmore's lithographs of the Dragonlance Chronicles covers to frame and hang. Currently I'm looking into ways of mounting the massive 4 part map of greyhawk from Dungeon in a nice display to hang on the wall.
Other decorations are a big war spear mounted on the wall, various dragon and wizard knick-knacks to help round out the look.
While still a ways from complete, its finally starting to come together in a good way. Finally, I'm getting a room dedicated just to gaming to enjoy my C&C goodness in.

I still like playing at a table even though I don't use miniatures. I can easily make eye contact with all of the players, and there's a sense of "We're playing now 'cause we're at the table; when we take a break and leave the table we won't be playing." Congrats on the game room DD! My wife and I have been looking at houses and I know that the game room idea is something I've kept in mind when checking out the floor plans.

Sounds like a gamer's dream come true! Sounds nice, DD.
Although, from my perspective poofy cources and recliners sometime become a hinderence as this allows for players to drift off and become a bit too comfortable, IMO and experience.

Sounds awesome. I'm moving sometime later this year, and depending on the space (and if we end up with a spare bedroom), I'm hoping to do something similar... Time will tell though!

Another thing I'm wanting to do (my wife is all for it too) is looking for someone to do a couple of nice, black and white character portraits. Suitable for framing.
Now that that I'm actually starting to get work done on the game room I'm getting ALOT of ideas. Not sure how many I'll be able to implement though, as money is an issue.
One thing I want to do, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to pull it off is t have the ability to easily convert my desk into a CK station at game time. What I envision is a bit hard to explain, but if I manage to do what I'm envisioning, I'll post pictures of the completed project.
In my experience, the gaming setup I prefer depends on the group. Currently, I'm comfortable without a table for this group.
In the past I've used a table for keeping players alert and into the game. I've also used one to keep players honest. You know the type, when they're half-way across the room where no one can see, somehow they almost always roll a 20.

I guess mine haven't been so bad, they just hit about 10 times for every time they missed.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

It sounds great! If I ever grow up & get to old for a job that requires running around in woods or jumping, I HOPE to be able to build a house. If I'm lucky ....... Congrats & good luck on getting everything to fall into place!
