Ghastly Affair's default setting is called the “Ghastly Age”, which corresponds to the historical period from 1765 to 1820. Its the era of Marie-Antoinette and the Marquis de Sade, of Nelson and Napoleon, and of Byron and Blake. Games can set on earth at that time, or a fictitious setting inspired by it. My own “Saga” is set in and around the French city of Rennes just after Napoleon became First Consul. The example “Affair” given in the rules, however, is set in a fictional Principality called “Morsignon”. The game includes general information about late-eighteenth century society, to aid in role-playing and running games. I've presented the material in such a way that it can be used both for historically-based games, and those set in imaginary worlds.finarvyn wrote:Can you remind me what this game is about? (I know that it's gothic, romantic, and horror -- is it a specific historical era or is it a not-Earth world?)
Is it a "clone" or a new system?
Thanks!Rhuvein wrote:Awesome Clavis!!

.. Surviving High Society and perusing forbidden romances are as important as fighting. An adversary is as likely to be an aristocrat out to slander you, as a demon wanting to possess your body. Plus, characters receive bonuses for actions taken on behalf of their “True Love” - even if that True Love turns out to be a horrible monster!
This type of situation is critically important to my current campaign where politics and high society have just as dangerous as the cults of Orcus! Another reason I plan to look into this RPG.clavis123 wrote:Surviving High Society... [is] as important as fighting. As I learned running and playing the Legend of the 5 Rings RPG, more lives are lost and won in the battlefields of the courts than on any actual battlefield.Omote wrote:This type of situation is critically important to my current campaign where politics and high society have just as dangerous as the cults of Orcus!
