Sword Breaker in C&C

Post by JohnD »

Are there any rules or stats for this? If not, what have you used for it?

I want a reoccurring enemy to use one in my FG game. Thanks.

The Berserker class in Codex Nordica has a similar ability named 'Cleave Foe' (to destroy the weapon) or the 'lesser' ability, 'Disarm Enemy'.
Achievement is the knowledge that you have studied and worked hard and done the best that is within you. Success is being praised by others. That is nice but not as important or satisfying. Always aim for achievement and forget about success.

Well, I'd set the CL as a base of 10 (assuming a competently made STEEL weapon). Then add modifiers for being Expert and/or magical. Plus in the case of the Fighter types, if they are wielding the weapon, I'd add an additional bonus to the CL (making it harder to break a weapon they are wielding). Probably a +1 for the Divine types, +3 for the Bard and Barbarian, and +4 for the Knight and Paladin, and +5 when wielded by a Fighter.

Of course between all of that and then adding in additional difficulty modifiers if the weapon is made of Mithril, Adamantium, or the like, some weapons, especially in the hands of Fighter types, will be pretty much unbreakable.

If you want something "official" I seem to recall the CKG having weapon breakage rules, which may be of use.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

This is how I would rule it:

Use the disarming rules in the PHB.

If successfully disarmed, then a break attempt may be made in lieu of a standard disarm.

Use Table 9.3 Weathering & Combat Wastage in the CKG, under the category of bending attack (in which case if successful the blade is snapped).

Make sure to adjust according to strength and weapon quality modifiers.

I would also rule that a magical blade cannot be broken by a non-magical sword-breaker.

Could be as simple as attack the weapon and do damage against equipment wastage. After it becomes obvious what you're doing, assuming the blade does not break right away I would think it gets harder and harder. Now, key is also to use a magical sword breaker with bonuses and stronger than normal materials and an illusion to look like a normal light weight sword anyone would block.... so that when it breaks the blade it does it on the first or second try before it becomes obvious... NOW, fighter with broken blade... what do they do and what does the sword breaker dude do ? Ask to yield or give him a coupon for "Joe's Sword Repair."????
Wow, Another Natural One! You guys are a sink hole for luck. Stay away from my dice.
