I'm playing a rip off of the spy Mata Hari in the Thursday game.

http://www.biography.com/people/mata-hari-9402348

I'm also using a little known spy who is best known for her love of cooking French Cuisine as some of my influence as well. I can only imagine how much better Navy food would be today if they had accepted her attempt to enlist after WW II. (Julia Child)

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

As for the RR question, I didn't feel it was a RR, especially after you revealed how we had been being "played" all along. Its all good when an organization within the campaign is the one putting you on the RR. In a plausible/believable way, which is what you did.

You are generous. haha

I forgot about Julia! Trés cool.

Spoiler hint: everyone should re-read the spaceship combat rules before the game. Neogen is spitting mad and they will pursue you to the ends of the known universe.

Quan Li just stepped off the ship when Todd calls out, "All hands on deck! Incoming urgent message from Mrs. Laveau."

Neogen has sent a small fleet of ships to intercept you. No details about the makeup of this fleet except that they have orders to shoot to kill. Laveau is offering to hire two patrol boats that are currently orbiting Gansu to provide an escort. Each has 5 crew members including a pilot. All other details can be found on p. 241. You are welcome to assume command of these ships if that interests you and to give them proper space ship names.

Oh my!

Yeah, I'm pretty sure we'll assume command of those ships!!

Cool, looking forward to space battle.

Sounds like you are all in. Since we've gone into combat, OT-10 becomes the Marco Polo.

The two patrol ships are under the command of the other two players.Their characters can either give their commands remotely from the Marco Polo or they can actually be on board. Please give a name to you ship if you don't want it to be called patrol ship 1 or patrol ship 2. The patrol ships come with a pilot and gunner of the same rank and skill as Marco.

Treebore: if you want a gunner on board the Marco Polo just say the word and feel free to change your stats to reflect his skills. The other ship's have a +1 for gunnery. A gunner plus the auto system could allow you to fire both weapons at the same time if that is a thing you want to do. At least that is how I understand it. Please correct if I am wrong.

You might enjoy this presentation if you haven't already seen it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g0gZES2p ... K9&index=7 Thx to Aergraith for the link.

I will post a summary of how combat works soon. It isn't as complicated as a first glance suggests.

However
The first action is for the opposing teams to write down what phase they are in and what phase they will be shooting into. Normally, people write their intentions down and then reveal them at the same time. Not sure how to resolve that with remote players. Are you ok with a count down 3 - 2 - 1 and then typing the choices into the chat window? If you have a better idea please lemme know.

Roll 20
I have added your ships onto Roll20. Feel free to check them out and let me know if something looks off. I started to feel sorry for you so I added 2 torpedoes.

Cheat Sheet for Ship Combat

This is what I have so far. Does this look right?

Step 1: Declare your ship's phase and the phase you are shooting into. This can range from 0 for real space to your spike drive's max. So, for your Spike Drive-2 ship the choices are 0 - 1 - 2. If I have a Spike Drive-3 I would have 0 - 1 - 2 - 3 as potential choices.

Step 2: Declare manoeuvres if desired. Choices: Evade, Fire to Disable, Lamprey Lock, Remora Lock, Ramming Speed (Page 67 for details)

Step 3: Weapon fire if desired. If you fire into a phase not occupied by the target roll 1d6. Successful hit if the result is greater than the difference between phases. So if you shoot into 0 but my ship is in 3 you need to roll a number higher than 3.

Step 4: All damage from manoeuvres and weapons is applied simultaneously.

If the ship is brought to zero and not merely disabled the chief engineer must make a Tech/Astro skill check at difficulty 8 to safely shut down the power. A ship without an engineer makes the roll at -2. Failure = 1d6 rounds to explosion. In case of emergency use your lifeboat!

***

Combat rolls:

1d20 + target ship's AC + your combat skill (include the ship's auto targeting system bonus if available) + your attribute modifier + your weapon's attack bonus. Success if >20.

***

Determining Damage AP and AC and Fittings Fineprint

Some weapons have AP or an Armour Penetration feature that can ignore the some or all of the target's armour. Example: Suppose the aggressor's weapon AP is 20; It is aiming at a target with an Armour of 2. The target would take full damage because the penetration value exceeds the armour's protective capabilities. If a weapon does not have AP then a ship's armour will protect against some or all of the damage. Example: A weapon with no AP hits a target with 5 Armour. On a successful hit, the aggressor may roll 10 damage but the ship only receives 5 due to its armour's protection.

Some starships may be fitted with extras that further reduce damage. For example a ship equipped with a Hardened Polyceramic Overlay reduces the AP qualities of attacking weapons by 5.

Gansu News

A declaration of war!

This just in. What appeared to be an unscheduled meteor shower overhead proved to be something far more insidious. This evening the Neogen Corporation sent a small fleet of fighter ships and a cruiser into Gansu territory to attack a small civilian merchant craft. Neogen Corporation has taken a grave risk in escalating hostilities. Our fleet is one of the strongest and most formidable in the Hydra sector.

With a promptness and unanimity that left no possible room for doubt, Gansu answered with decisive action. Orbiting Gansu is a disabled cruiser starship, The Enterprise. The fleet of fighter ships accompanying the cruiser is nothing more than wreckage. Captain Cutter of Gateway and a crew of 50 have been taken into custody.

The Enterprise is registered out of Gateway. The Government of Gateway denies any collusion with Neogen Corporation claiming the action was not sponsored by Parliament. They assure us an official inquiry has been launched.

We are in this thing, now, ALL THE WAY – and we are in to win. OUR VERY SURVIVAL DEPENDS UPON COMPLETE VICTORY. We have answered the defiance of a cowardly, back-stabbing foe who talked peace even while plotting undeclared war. THERE IS NO TURNING BACK NOW; THE DIE IS CAST.

Cool!

All heck breaks loose in the sector. Good thing we got out of there, for the moment. But who knows what we may face going forward. Seems like we should dock our ship somewhere to ride out the current storm. Perhaps Laveau could get us another ship to continue working for her.
