Re: I'm watching: Conan the Barbarian.
Don't you watch it every week?
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

Had to be sure... Jason Momoa was ok as Khal Drogo, but is no substitute for Arnold.slimykuotoan wrote:Old absolutely.

Aye, those two films cannot be compared, and should naught be spoken in the same breath I say.

Sort of like Godzilla 1998 and the old Toho films.slimykuotoan wrote:Aye, those two films cannot be compared, and should naught be spoken in the same breath I say.

Excellent movie fo sho.
BUT, for me Conan the Destroyer wins cinematically and ~ it's the way I would do and present C&C!
Love Sword & Sorcery, but give me Zula, Makak, Akiro and the Princess for the ultimate win!

Well, almost anything with Olivia D'Abo in it is good by me... but I think the Destroyer missed in several areas. I recall it didn't flow as well as the original, and had a bit of a "cheese" factor to it. I haven't watched in quite some time, and may have to go back and check it out again.Rhuvein wrote:Excellent movie fo sho.

It's got some greatness to it, but I still pick The Godfather for the best ever.slimykuotoan wrote:Old absolutely.

Re: I'm watching: Conan the Barbarian.
I watch it once every 3 or 4 months, usually immediately after Army of Darkness which is the quintessential "best movie ever."

Re: I'm watching: Conan the Barbarian.
Conan the Barbarian's synergy of imagery, music, and Milius' insanity is near-perfect.
In my younger days, I espoused a Conan drinking game. You take a sip/slug of your drink every time:
1 - Someone says Crom
2 - Every time Conan makes a giant inarticulate noise
3 - Every time someone shows up on screen for the first time with a mullet
4 - At all the epic quotes
The new Conan could've been something. Momoa was a great Conan, but the rest of the movie had problems. I think if they had taken the revenge element out, it would've been closer to the source material.

Great, I know what I'm going to be required to do next time I visit Jyrdan. Arnold's Conan movies are iconic. I'm looking forward to him reprising the role, if the rumors ever prove true.Jyrdan Fairblade wrote: In my younger days, I espoused a Conan drinking game. In the newer Conan I thought the kid who played the young Conan was great, but after that I didn't think much of the movie. I liked the beginning.

Hahahah, we're too old for drinking games now!
Of all his roles, I think Conan is the one he's best-suited to bringing back now.

Re: I'm watching: Conan the Barbarian.
Conan's world is very real in that Robert E. Howard went to great lengths to limit his magic and
sorcery to firm up the believability of his stories. The Gods of his world are of many types and go
from one extreme to the next in working, or leaving alone, mankind.
CONAN
Armor Class — As a normal man Alignment: Neutral
Move: 12" Magic Ability: None
Hit Points: 117 Fighter Ability: 15th Level
Strength: 18; Exceptional Strength: 100%; Intelligence: 16; Wisdom: 10; Constitution: 17; Dexterity:
18; Charisma: 15.
This mighty fighter of the 15th level also has thieving abilities of a 9th level thief as per
Greyhawk. His animal instincts make it almost impossible to surprise him (roll of "1" on 12-
sided dice) and his unusually keen perception allows only the most clever of traps to entangle
him. With the new Greyhawk rules he receives a plus 4 on hit probability and a plus 6 on the
damage he does. He opens all doors, and wizard-locked ones on a roll of 1-3, his thief abilities
allow him to open locks 75% of the time, remove traps 70% of the time, pick pockets and move
silently 75% of the time and hide in shadows 65% of the time.

Boy. That brings back memories. lol I remember first reading that in the library in 7th grade.
Now it has to have a sub-note: 50% chance of knocking out camels with a single punch while drunk.

Check out The Dragon #36.
