Happy 8 . . . ;)

Been reading your excellent material again.

Thanks for sharing.

I will be running a "Victorian" game, using your stuff (btw, I'm going to be re-reading loads of fiction which is such a great bonus, if you will - to prep for the game), Mike's Victorious and Masque of the Red Death (AD&D).

From my post with our group here:

"I now have plenty of material and am in the process of creating a starting scenario that will lead into a module.

Gaslight London - train to Folkestone (near Dover) - ferry to Calais - then a little south to Castle Franqueforte, when Count Rhuvein is hosting a masked ball and has invited his friend from Paris. Monsieur Henri Toulouse Lautrec will show some of his works of art. Other notable personages from the Victorian age may very well be present. Oh, and Madame Goldini will conduct a tarokka deck reading.

[Henri, of course will outrage many guests at the ball when he shows up with "friends" from Ambassadeurs, Olympia and the Moulin Rouge]

More to come."

:)

Thanks! I'd love to hear more about the game. Belle Epoque France was filled with interesting characters like "Teapot" Lautrec. Surely there will be absinthe-fueled scandal!

Indeed. I has forgotten that Henri will be accompanied by his good friend:

I have this print hanging on my family room wall.

Camille Saint-Saëns will also be there as well as Oscar Wilde.

Was reading today about Jack the Ripper. Nasty business. Must have had all of London in a tizzy.

An interesting thing about the Jack the Ripper murders is that they began in 1888, almost exactly 100 years after the serial slasher called "The London Monster" started attacking women (in 1788). The "Monster" didn't mange to kill anyone, but had many more victims than "Jack".

Was there a connection?

Indeed.

And here is another oddity that Penny mentioned to me the other night . .

The servant girl annihilator in 1884/5 in Austin Texas:

Thank you! I've tried to give the game a distinct tone and aesthetic focus, while still being a "toolkit" for the full range of possible stories in the Gothic genre.
