How'd you get into Castles & Crusades?
Re: How'd you get into Castles & Crusades?
I've got an online game that you can play in on Tuesday nights, 8-11pm US/Central.

Re: How'd you get into Castles & Crusades?
It's been a long time since I've been around the forums, but back shortly after 3e appeared, I realized that it had drawbacks for the way I liked to DM and play. Somehow, I stumbled upon Castles & Crusades, signed the NDA and became a playtester. I'm old, so my memories of that time are faint and often confused.... I remember some of the discussions on the old EZBoard, playtesting the pre-Siege Engine version (I can't even recall what the Trolls called that resolution mechanism).
Picked up the 1st printing of both the PHB and M&T as soon as I could. Ran some Necromancer Games' modules with it, but unfortunately, I've had troubles finding a local group (Pathfinder was the hot game, and now D&D 5 is it). But, I now have a captive group, although we started with Pathfinder and then D&D 5, but after today's session, I'm converting them to C&C.
So, I'm back and hopefully will be around the forums from time to time.

Thanks!
We played tonight, and I brought up switching to C&C - slight nervous glances, but I have acceptance. Now I'm working on the conversions.

Hey malchidael, it was "Target -20" or something similar during the playtests.
As for me, I was over at dragonsfoot.org when Steve came over there and started pitching to us grogs a game that would not only play like O/AD&D but would convert modules from these old systems in a cinch. At least, that was the goal.
So, Liz and I joined the playtests and NDAed our group in. Then when the PHB came out I got corralled into writing 2 modules and a arms book. Now I'm thinking of writing some more, but not 'till Victorious is in the bag!

Yeah - Target-20 sounds familiar. I just ordered two copies of the 6th printing C&C rules, bringing me to four "current enough" copies (would have five, but someone borrowed one of my fifth printings and did not return it.... Hopefully, he fell in love with it and is playing it now. It would be well worth it to me if he was). Plus two older printings.
I will say this - For some strange reason, while I was prepping using D&D 5, I had serious writer's block. As soon as I decided to switch, the blockage was gone. I'm chalking it up to the fact that C&C plays like I ran AD&D in the old days, and it's just comfortable.

Came a bit later. 4E left me cold, stuck with 3.5 until 2009, switched to Pathfinder and burned out on 3.x around 2012. Sister dropped off my AD&D books so we tried out 2E again (last played 2002) and enjoyed it. Players could not really get THACO so started looking at these "retroclone" things and eventually arrived at C&C/ACKs.

Great Family pic, Rhuvein! My kids are all grown up now but it reminds me of my family games of old. Now I have family games of new. Just because they grew up didn't mean we couldn't still play, right?

Here's a great way to get into Castles and Crusades (since there's a lot of people on this TLG Forum who don't realize that this forum is only a part of a greater TLG and C&C marketing effort.
For lack of a better phrase....
Get your butts over to the KOTC website and sign up! This is a great chance to organize efforts and gaming materials for conventions, hobby store games and home campaigns. We can grow this into a ground game like WOTC's Dungeon Masters Guild and Pathfinder's Pathfinder Society have. These guys are organized and taking over conventions. We need to match or surpass their efforts to put C&C on top of the gaming industry! To do that we need collaboration and unity.
It's easy to join, just go to the link below to sign up. Come on, you know you want to! We can't get the ball rolling unless everyone gives it a push. So ladies, recruit your men! Men recruit your women! Kids recruit your parents and other relatives. Sorry no pets unless you guarantee they won't each the miniatures or dice. lol.

I submitted my 105 page multiple adventure scenario "Hunger Hollow" to KOTC for all to use. It contains multiple separate cave adventures for kobolds, goblins, hobgoblins, orcs, bugbears, gnolls, ogres and I think I put the trolls in there too, quite literally actually. For those who remember the "Killer Caves" i.e. "Caves of Chaos on steroids" as someone once called them referring to the Caves from Red-Box Original D&D's B2-Keep On The Borderlands, they're all in there. Here's your chance to grab them if you didn't get them yet.
Brian Miller - KOTC Grand Knight Commander (pronounced, "Knight Of The Round Gaming Table).
Gary Con VIII and IX 3 Round Elimination C&C Tournament Coordinator
I'm looking for GMs for Gary Con IX in C&C or 1st Ed AD&D. Run 3 tables and you get in Gary Con free and get a cool GM T-shirt and GM cup (for low cost sodas or beer all Gary Con).

I remember meeting several of your kids a few years ago and they were great kids.
Heh, after my daughter grewup - she would try to make fun of me to her male friends - but it backfired as most of them would say ~ "dude (to my daughter), your Dad plays D&D? We want to play the game with him. Of course, she pretty blocked that from happening . . . LOL!
At least, she likes to play Hearts or Spades and a few other board games.

The Yellow Lantern, who I think used to be here often, got us all started when he'd had enough 3.14159.. That died and I restarted when someone started "board game night" and I brought a 1962 Sorry board and Munchkins.. I was the only one who got the joke about the Gazebo... ;}
Wow, Another Natural One! You guys are a sink hole for luck. Stay away from my dice.
Re: How'd you get into Castles & Crusades?
How did I get into C&C? For the humorous answer, I'll say "dragged kicking and screaming" lol. 2nd edition D&D gave way to 3rd edition. 3rd Edition was too far removed from the game I loved even though Skip Williams wrote it and I enjoyed and still enjoy playing in his 2nd and later 3rd edition games. Enter C&C and it was just like to the good ole days. I don't even remember who introduced me to it. Come to think of it, I don't think anyone did. I think it was that I stumbled across this TLG Forum and signed up as it's 12th member. Saw what I liked and got the books from a local hobby store. Was impressed with the art and loved that the content was so much like 1st Edition. Huzzah!

Re: How'd you get into Castles & Crusades?
Winter of 2008 I started to get the itch to run a game again. My son was now 8 and I figured it was about time he learned it a RPG. It took until the summer of 2009 to run the first one.
The last game had been user 3rd edition and ended in late 2004. But the players where all from my high school group and I started playing with them in 1982. I was doing some cleaning and sent off a ton of stuff to NobleKnight for credit, I knew I did not want to play 3rd with my 8 year old (or really with any one) so I started doing research and I found Castles and Crusades, read the forums and reviews, it looked worth a shot so I spent some of the store credits on the 2nd Print PHB and MT. Never looked back. Converted all the old AD&D stuff to it, converted a few of the 3rd characters to it and picked up the game again. There is a Druid and Illusionist from the 3rd edition game still active (9th and 10th level respectively now). Really my go to game for face to face.
