Castle Keeper guide?

Post by ZeornWarlock »

I hope this wasn't asked before, but I've heard rumors about a castle keeper guide. Is the book in the building process? If so, what will be the content?

Thanks.

It's in progress. Best that can be said at the moment. ^_^

Yes, a lot of suggestions have been made as to what should be in it, so I think part of the issue/problem is deciding which ideas to include and which ones to turn into additional books, such as an Oriental Adventures type book.

We, the fans, hope to see this by October, but since C&C has proven to be completely playable with just the PH and M&T I am personally willing to wait until the Troll Lords are totally ready to release it.

Besides, I have plenty of DMing tools from other editions to work out whatever issues I have had, plus just the help from the other fans here.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

I was curious of the content because I can't find any traps in C&C. None of them are really mentioned anywhere. So I was wondering if they are being added to that book. Just having sections/chapters on traps, transports like ships, carts etc... plants, puzzles, and other hazards would suit me just fine. As long as all this is kept simple. Oh and maybe an official description of weapons, armor and gear would be nice too. (Although for the time being serleran's stuff on his webpage covers a few things mentioned here.)

The oriental adventures book should be separated from the CKG.

The OA stuff is going to be its own book, whenever it gets done.

A traps and trinkets book?

Personally, there were charts in the old 1st Ed AD&D DMG that were always a must in my campaign - random sounds, random miscellaneous stuff, herbs, insanities, etc. Like to see those in a C&C incarnation. Otherwise, you got it basically covered.

Dungeon builder system: check (however, I have not included random decorations, sights, and sounds; that is in progress)

Herbs: check (currently available on my website as "Web Enhancement;" have another system as well which may end up in The Crusader or the CKG and is not currently available)

Gems: check (currently available on my website as "Web Enhancement")

Monster from lower planes: check (not in CKG though -- will be in M&T II; alternate version found on my website as "Creature Crucible")

Random encounters (Monsters): check (part of the dungeon builder system)

Insanities: in progress

NPC builder: in progress

Random critical hits: check

Alternate treasure tables: check (currently found on my website as "Alternate Treasure Tables")

Artifacts: in progress

Expert weapons: check (not currently available as it may become a Crusader article, or end up in the CKG)

serleran, M&T II ? Do you know if old Icons like Orcus and Demogorgon will appear in C&C? Or are they a D&D exclusive property?

Orcus is real-world based, and can be used by anyone, as far as the name goes; I'm not a lawyer, so I won't comment further on the specifics of what can and cannot be used, though, I do know the word itself is "public." In fact, Orcus is also the name for a Kupier Belt Object (meaning its used in astronomy, and so, does not exist solely in the realms of fantasy.)

Demogorgon, too, is a real-world based demon, and so the name can be used as well.

So, it is possible this two entities enter into the C&C realms with official stats.

Actually, thinking about it... there are not many 1E demons that are "invented." Off-hand, I recall only Fraz'Urblu (spelling?) and Yeenoghu not having real-world counterparts, but don't quote me on that.

As a simplification of what's already been said, the CKG was/is planned as a tome with advice and alternatives.

Update

Next Friday, Steve should have the NDAs ready for people who need/want them.

The following week we are going to the lggc. There, the big heads will get together on the CKG. We will lay out a plan and work forward.

The week after, the boards will open for the CK Guide and we'll finish it when we are done.

Count me in for an NDA. Was starting to wonder when we'd hear something on that issue.

Grazzt (sp?) was also from S4 (Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth) with Fraz Urb Lu and is probably also D&D property now. Can't say for sure. Just ran that dungeon last week. Kudos to Gary on that one. Always liked it.

The CKG sounds really promising. If it has everything you say, I'll definitely pick one up. Mind if I download your whole site, Serleran?
As for the artifacts, since monsters and treasures are combined in a single book (which I think was a great idea), wouldn't it be cool to have artifacts and the stats on their creators/owners and minions/armies in the same book?...i.e. a "Legends and Artifacts" book or "Heroes, Villains and Artifacts". It would be like slapping a Rogues Gallery together with artifacts. That would be way cool and seems like a logical combination.

I'm not English, so what does NDA stands for, Alpha/Beta testing perhaps?

The NDA stands for Non Disclosure Agreement. Once signed, it prohibits you from talking about material that you would be privy to in the CKG forum. I'm sure the document has loads of information on the specifics if you're interested.

Yep, an NDA is a legal document that says you agree to keep secrets. Modern day version of being sworn to secrecy.

I suffered a crash recently and I believe the form was on there. Talked to a guy at CompUSA said there might be more extractable and if I can afford the $50 come payday, I'll give 'em a day and a bit more. Sorry.

Saw on Dragonsfoot.org that Stephen should have forms ready next week. That should beat me even if it is possible to snag just that.

I'm really looking forward to this book. Kind of reminds me of a compilation of all the old school netbooks that used to be part of D&D's internet presence. I'll gladly sign any NDA I can get my hands on.

Will those who have already signed an NDA for C&C have to do so again?

Any news on when we can see the CKG? This year? Next? December 21, 2012?

All is it still in the playtest stages and if so could I be involved ?, I have sent in a NDA before or would you need a new one filled in ?

Cheers,

There will be if someone creates one or brings it up in the contents discussions.
