I'm thinking about going to see this at the movie theatres, especially since my wife and kids are nagging me to go.

So let me know if its worth the money to see it at a theatre rather than wait for DVD.

Ugh... the previews look less then intriqing to say the least. During Adult Swim on Cartoon Network last night they played a 3 minute sneak preview... Wow, it was really bad. And this comes for a guy who generally likes bad movies.

Not to keep beating this into everybody, but Ghost Rider wasn;t screened for critics (which is generally not a big deal anymore), but IS worrysome because this flick has balooned to over $120,000,000 budget... NOT counting advertising (according to Variety magazine).

I don't pay attention to critics.

I liked both Underworlds and plenty of other movies most people don't like, or at least claim they don't like in public.

I don't know. I think just the graphics of seeing Ghost Rider on his motorcycle will be worth it to me. But I have a family of 5, so I want to know if its worth blowing $50+ to go see.

That's an open-ended question, Treebore. If $50.00 is OK to spend on a crappy movie but you and the fam have a great time anyways, it sounds well worth it to me.

Critics aside, if you don't want to spend cash on what appears (in my eyes) a very sub-par flick, with kids figiting around and the wifey snoring then you may want to hold off.

However I will say that peter Fonda look really bad-ass as Mephostopheles! Easy Rider gets all hell-bent and whatnot. that could be sweet too.

See, when I like it I don't consider it a crappy movie.

If more examples would help I haven't gone to see a movie in a theatre for a very long time. 2 years? 3? I didn't see FF, X-3, Narnia, etc... in the theatres.

I saw the 3rd LotR movie in a theatre. I think I saw Spiderman 2 in a theatre.

Snce then I have waited for DVD because nothing looked good enough to see at a theatre.

My wife wants to go see 300 at a theatre. She says that looks like something that has to be seen on the big screen to do it justice. We have the same opinion about Ghost Rider. Plus Silver Surfer in the new FF movie.

I don't know, maybe I should save up a few grand and just buy a huge plasma TV and not worry about the movie theatre effect again.

That train of thought always get me thinking on two things.

1.) How can a 6 foot screen ever compare to a 40 foot screen? Then again, I tease everyone I know when they want to sit up towards the higher middle. I tell them, "Why? If Iwanted to sit that far away, I'd go get a plasma." I like to sit further up close and have the bass thrum through my body.

2.) Maybe I'm getting old, but I blame HDTV and home surround sound on how kids act in theaters these days. I feel they act like the theater is their living room, yaking on their cell phones when bored or texting on their sidekicks.

I'll give up on the big screen when I own a theater.

No movie is worth spending anything for, except the pain of watching the acting, bad cinematography, and all the sundry boring humdrum Hollywood clichs which are bound to jump up, scream, and then leave you feeling like Kevin Bacon.
Actually, I don't know if Ghost Rider is worth seeing, but if they remade the song used in The Crow, then I'll be passing. I hate remakes.

*smiles* You obviously read a lot of critics you agree with. I have yet to do so. Professional and not so professional critics look for quite a bit more 'serious' stuff than I do.

My generall assessment is, was the entertainment worth the $7 ticket? If so, is it worth the $12-15 DVD? Beyond that, movie critics and I have nothing in common. ^_^

You can listen to critics all you want, but you can still form your own opinion. Take the source and calculate how much you want to see some thing. If your on the edge about seeing it and critics hate the flick, then maybe you'll want to pass. Who knows.

So if critics love a movie, does that make many of you NOT want to see some thing?

Depends on the genre, for me. If its a horror/suspense film, and the critics like it... odds are I'll find it boring/clich. The Blair Witch Project is a prime example... they loved it, I hate it... its like crap on celluloid; though there is the exception of me liking The Evil Dead. Other types of movies, though, like "action" films... might actually be good if the critics like them, since they typically hate them. Drama movies, like Crash, I tend to avoid, and even more so if a "critic with clout" says its a "winner." I've since seen that movie and wish I could reverse the eye-wear and brainsuck.

Blair Witch Project = Overhyped but good if taken as a student film (as it was originally intended)

Crash = damn fine film.

Evil Dead = Stupedously entertaining filmmaking.

300 = Highly anticipated with low suck-factor.

Pretty much. Anything the professional critics seem to like bores me to tears. So I'll most likely enjoy Ghostrider when I get around to seeing it. ^_^

Agreed. Pan's Labyrinth looks so cool, anfd a couple of friends say that movie MUST be seen. However, Like PB above I think I want to see the english dubbed version. Maybe on DVD.
