Depends on the CK. The inspiration abilities aren't exactly thrilling to me as a player, but the legend lore stuff can be very fun to use with a CK who will run with it.

I had fun playing a bard in Tree's first run on our online game. He was fairly versatile and useful in most situations. I did end up multiclassing him with wizard (per Tree's house rules), but that was for character reasons, not player reasons.

Low XP requirements, Warrior (but not fighter) BTH advancement, Inspire (helps all allies with a +2 to attribute rolls) is pretty awesome, and the 4th level Fascinate can work very well upon opponents. The Bard is like Indiana Jones... he's a good fighter, can decipher strange languages, and probably gets any lady he wants. Jones. Bard. Awesome.

I really like the Skald-style bard of C&C. But I tend to be favorable towards bards in most games.

I enjoy playing a bard and also like having them when I run games, as they add a lot of flavor/interest to a party.

I'm thinking a bard/rogue combo would be cool.

All classes are worthwhile with a player who can do something with it.
Re: Is the C&C bard a desirable class to play?
I like them in general, they are in CnC to me a fighter with flavor... keep your eye on the soon to come Domesday.. in fact, I think we had a call for Bard magic items and stuff... did anyone ever supply those to tree? I like the idea that the bard picks up a new language every other level too...
Wow, Another Natural One! You guys are a sink hole for luck. Stay away from my dice.
Re: Is the C&C bard a desirable class to play?
I've never played one myself and I haven't seen many people play them in the games I've been in, maybe not as desirable as others, though it's hard for me to say for sure. For whatever reasons, only one player has ever played a bard in my games. So in the group I roll with, bards aren't as desirable. I wonder if that's just a fluke or if that's a common thing at other tables as well.
Re: Is the C&C bard a desirable class to play?
I liken the class to the illusionist -- some will see it as a gateway to creativity and others will see it as ill-defined. In my experience, poor experience with the DM can also greatly hinder enjoyment of this class.
After all, there are a great number of assumptions one might deduce from it... I, personally, have codified some of them a bit. Bards do get groupies, for example. And free stuff. Especially food, drink, and lodging.

Re: Is the C&C bard a desirable class to play?
Bard's a very much a "support" character. I find players tend to not like playing them, meaning support characters. Like the cleric slot is often difficult to fill, until someone decides to play it because "we can't play without one." So since you can play without a Bard, they rarely get played.
I played one 5 or so years back, up to 6th or 7th level. I didn't dislike the class, since I was willing to keep playing him, but I didn't like it enough to want to play one again since. Plus, since I am also spoiled by having played the old 1E AD&D Bard, in a campaign that lasted long enough for me to get it up to 14th level in the Bard class, all other Bards pale in comparison...

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.
