Depends. I only play them under GM's who don't expect me to play a one dimensional idiot. So when I do find such a GM, I enjoy playing them immensely.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.
Sounds obvious to me! -Gm Michael

My favored class. Played the class so much that it was my nickname in HS. :D

+1 to both of those. Paladins are my preferred class. However, I hate it when it is expected to be played as lawful stupid, or Mr Goody-two-shoes. To me a Paladin is the personification of noble good just law and is the defender of such. He is the knight defender and judge in the dark evil world. As such he can't be stupid, and at times must be harsh, but never a 'the ends justify the means' guy.

In my experience, players don't grasp that a paladin doesn't have to have a stick up his donkey; and most DMs don't know they don't have to punish players.

So, no. I don't like the class. Somewhat because of the above. But mostly because I don't think it is a class anyone can choose to play -- it should be earned through actions. Prove your worth. Don't assume you're special. Otherwise, it feels like "favoritism."

I dig paladins, though I don't truck with the "a paladin can be any alignment" philosophy. LG or go home.

Currently playing an elven paladin in Pathfinder. I try to make him the nicest, most relentlessly upbeat smiter of evil.

If one were to look at the definition of Paladin, it would be noted that as long as the Paladin was Lawful they could be whatever. They are warriors of virtue (defined by their faith...evil, good, or neutral god) or champions of a cause (again the cause could be anything as long as in line with their concept of virtue).

Sometimes it is fun to tweak them around a bit. I ran one Paladin that was a favorite character for a time that followed a God of the Sea. No holy warhorse...it was a Hippocampus. No Turn undead...it was breath water. But otherwise the same. When presented with a chance for a wish from an Efreeti we had freed...and knowing that our DMs did the twist as much as possible trick...his wish was "I wish for you to become a true follower of my God." I actually converted an Efreet (fire creature) to worship a sea god. He failed his magic resistance and save. *evil grin*

Gnomish Paladin on a giant Wolverine mount... that little dude was great fun. LG practical jokes a plenty! Plus some lovely "little person" specialist combat techniques against "the biggens"...
Wow, Another Natural One! You guys are a sink hole for luck. Stay away from my dice.
