Any OS X using C&C Players here?

Post by Eisenmann »

If so, are there any OS X specific C&C player utilities out there? How about Castle Keeper utils?

Thanks!

If there aren't any utils, I might have to whip some up.

Dunno of any. I use OS X, though.

Im an OSX user as well, but I also know of no utils for C&C. If you find any, let me know.

I use OS X also, but know of no C&C-specific utilities. I used to use something called Crystal Ball for D&D 3.5 that worked on a Mac.

I spent a lot of time on my sister's MAC when I was in Florida and I must say that I was quite disappointed. I think earlier version of MAC's OS were better and more user friendly. OSX was quite difficult. And I'm someone who has used MACs since their inception. I'm a veteran Linux user as well.

In fact, I've use personal computers since 1982 - CPM!!!

Still Winblows and OS2 rulz.

But I'm still reserving final judgement on MAC.

Like to hear what you MAC fans think. 8)

I think you're smoking crack.
Seriously though, with OSX being Unix based (BSD) and IME pretty damned user friendly with a much more solid codebase than previous iterations of MACOS, this is the first version which I've truly taken seriously. I mean anything beyond seeing it as a cutesy OS to play with. I can use X11 in OSX, which roxxors my BoxX0rz. Otherwise, I still find it incredibly easy to use, so no worries on this end. You wanna see a HUGE DOG of an OS? Check out Vista... Im *NOT* a windows hater, I use windows as my primary OS, but I installed Vista on a 3ghz machine with 2GB of PC2700 and it sucked beyond comprehension. It was slow, buggy, and that goddawful "security feature" that asks you every time you want to do anything in the OS sucked even AFTER I TURNED IT OFF. Because at that point, some things simply cannot be accomplished.

Haha, BD - funny as hell. But seriously after trying OS X, I'm thinking of trying CRACK.

Yep, I'm not a winblows hater, just a WINDOWS HATER!! Starting with version 1.2 The f**k thing SUCKS and always HAS. Oh, and I'm a winblows EXPERT, cause that's what I get paid for. Hahahahahahahahah!

Lessee what words get editied above!

I'm a long time Windows user and got my first Mac that ran OS X in July. I love it to death. I like the fact that it has everything I need built in... and everything is integrated. Example: I know nothing about making web pages but wanted to make one for my daughter. The first day I got the Mac, I used iWeb to make a web page and went into iPhoto, selected some pics, and clicked "Send to iWeb". Boom... I now have a web page with her pictures. All in all, it's just very simple for someone who doesn't have time to learn a ton of 3rd party/aftermarket apps to accomplish basic things.

I'm obviously an OS X user. I switched to OS X after 6 years running linux exclusively. All this after becoming ever so increasingly frustrated by Windows on the desktop and as a server OS. Heck, 10 years ago I was an MCSE for Windows NT. At my last job, I was the head unix sys-admin at an ISP.

I've compiled many a' kernel (Linux/*BSD) and fiddled with kernel modules, etc. I had fun doing that but I also play guitar and do video editing. I tried and tried to do those things using Linux. Often times I'd succed but not without technical struggles. I just got tired of tinkering to get things done. Now, don't get me wrong. I love Linux/*BSD/Solaris as servers and some desktop duty but OS X rocks hard for desktop apps as well as on the server-side. I mentioned my previous job. There is where I fell in love with the XServe. It's now my favorite server platform.

Now I'm a software applications engineer at a defense contractor. I write J2EE and .NET apps. I've also written a lot of apps for both Windows and X11 and now for OS X. I have to say that writing them for OS X is the most rewarding. The process is the best thought out and the development environment is top notch with a top notch framework to help make it all happen. IMO, there's no better platform for a solid user experience that includes ease of use and rock solid reliability.

OS X does take a bit of getting used to when you are only used to OS 9. After a few days you begin to notice your machine hasn't frozen up, required a full reboot, the dock is a useful tool -- not just eye candy, and the Mac/NeXT hybrid interface really offers a lot of useful tools and shortcuts.

That's when you start to miss your mac at work, where they force you to use an XP machine that looks mac-like, but lacks a lot of the fuctionality.

Then you start surfing the Apple store.
OTOH, no I don't know of any C&C oriented mac programs. I'd love to see some though. Especially once the iPhone and Leopard hit the market!

Serleran, that's like buying hamburger and calling it filet minon because you smothered it in A1.
Vista may look pretty, but it's no OS X.

Oh, I know. I just meant all the "new" features that took MS 5 years to stea-velop from Apple that have a wondrous copious homage to Steve Jobs.

Heh, notwithstanding my drunken pycho rant about microsoft, I had to buy a new box, as my daughter's crashed. And she must have the windows version of AOL's IM. Not Linux, not Mac, only windows.

So anywho, I busted out laughing after firing up vista for the first time and what do I see? Gadgets on the deskop a la Mac!
Well, as I've preached. the bastiches have stolen and will continue steal any idea/program not attached (or even attached) to copyrights, trademarks. etc.!

FYI, vista is fat, ugly, bloated, slow and already in need of security updates (I knew it'd be the 1st thing I had to do - download updates! ).

The good thing - the hardware and video RAM will let me run Doom III and it looks way better. I'll try HL2 next.

[I've also decided to find an iMac or mini mac used, just to play around. And my other computer that died is going to return to Linux!!! ]
