Tome of the Unclean reboot...

Post by Treebore »

I see the Trolls are finally moving on this again, and have gotten rid of the subscription option. I can't decide if I want to be angry over this not remaining what we were promised or not. IE all "new" demons and devils for C&C. They are adding in Aihrde content, which I already have, but they promise a lot more new stuff. So I am thinking I will wait and see where they actually end up with this before I get upset over anything.

In the meantime, right now, I'd have to pay to see the new version they have up. Thats not going to fly. I already gave them money for this, so will be contacting Tim about getting a free link. I imagine that is what they are intending on doing, and just haven't sent the link out to us past subscribers just yet. They do move kind of slow in the Dens, after all.

I a also not a fan of this one page per monster thing. They are doing it in the new MT of A. I'd be fine if it was really just one page, but they do have run over to the next page, usually very little. So in the M&T of A you nave a lot of pages where around 95% of it is just white space. Also not something I am going to like. So hopefully before they print this, in both the M&T of A and in Tome of the Unclean, they will be getting rid of that unused white space. They kind of tlk like that is the plan in the Tome of Unclean e-mail, but I haven't seen anything about this issue with regard to M&T of A. Has anyone seen anything about this with regard to M&T of A?
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

I subscribed as well, but am glad for the reboot. The demons/devils as presented were way under powered.

I think someone around here mentioned that before. Didn't seem to make the author of the book at the time very happy.

Let me know if they do honor the subscription thing, since I had one too.

It's nothing personal of course, but Stephen agreed with this assessment a while back when he was soliciting feedback. The archdevils have almost no magical abilities. They should be near unbeatable.

I was sort of perplexed by the under-shoot on them also. We've got good many threads in the C&C Monsters Forums and Tomb of the Unclean was really the outlier on power level. I get not wanting to give in to power gaming, but then again, they are Demons and Devils. But hey I bought it !

Just got a note that the Tome has been updated and is being ready for printing. I downloaded it, but don't see much, if any difference. All the major demons and devils remain vastly under powered. Belial and Beelzebub have almost no spell like powers. Orcus has 22 HD, but only 120 hp? Some unlucky dice rolls there... I would think the big, bad guys would have max HP. I could go on, but obviously suggestions were not taken. Disappointed...

The e-mail I got said they were once again working on getting it ready for printing, and had many more entries to add, etc... So one of us failed their "Read secret script" check.

I hope my concerns were voiced in haste and are not proven correct.

Make the demons terrifying opponents who *almost* can't fall to a bunch of pansy 20th level PCs! In my games, Orcus is statted up pretty much as is, but has 666HP. Let the PCs quake in fear with the Lord of the Hells!

I went back and read it again. It said the Tome has been updated, and there were still quite a few entries to plug in yet. My translation of that being what is in there already has been updated, and there are more creatures being added to make the Tome larger. That leads me back to my original point.

Its still a work very much in progress, and I know from Gary Con last year that Steve, at least, is very aware of how under powered a lot of creatures are for higher level play. His concerns are screwing up and making them too over powered.

So I wouldn't be too concerned just yet, but it is definitely worth keeping an eye on and maybe sending some e-mails or making a phone call or three to Steve about...
