TREASURE HUNTER CLASS for C&C by Brian Miller
TREASURE HUNTER CLASS for C&C by Brian Miller
Ever been gaming and said, "I wish someone would tell me what this magic item does"?
Here's a link to this cool class that does just that and much more without being overly powerful. We've found it to be a nice addition to the campaign.

Yep, and then my eyes divert to the party spellcasters, bards, and then, when they fail... to the CK, to whom I say "I'll get it figured out... don't you worry. Just wait until we're in a city!"
Otherwise, its an Indy concept, which I can live with. Would be more fun in the types of games I don't run... so, I'd have to be a player.
Historical experience points
Unlike other classes, to a treasure hunter the history behind an item means as much as its gp value and particular abilities. In their eyes, an ancient +1 iron ring may be more valuable than any recent +5 jeweled item for its extensive background alone. Thusly, magic items become more than the sum of their gp value and abilities. Instead they represent evidence of lost cultures.
I'm playtesting a new EPP idea...assigning magic items a third value category...GP value, EPP value...and HISTORICAL value which is the number of years it's been in existence=extra experience points.
This method doesn't require any changes to the magic item tables in the M&T since the historical value of each item can be assigned an age by the CK on the fly based on the particular adventure. This way players get a bonus when their characters turn up something that's unusually old regardless of its abilities.
"Sure it's a staff of the magi, but how OLD IS IT they may ask."

Like the idea. I've always tried to tie important things to history (real or mythical) and character back ground.
You want me to give up my sword (a old +3 sword welded by a knight that died defending the pass with Roland) for that new one (A +4 frost brand)? Why on earth would I do that .. For the last 100 years it had been in the hands of my most noble kin & blood..
Im not sure how rules for that would work however.
